January 1 isn’t just the start of a New Year, it’s also National Bloody Mary Day, which means it’s time shine a spotlight on World Tour Golf Links, where America’s favorite hangover cure is more than just a drink, it’s a handcrafted labor of love.
When golfers order a World Tour Bloody Mary, they aren’t reaching for an off-the-shelf mix—they’re savoring a homemade recipe perfected over decades.
The history of World Tour’s famous Bloody Mary mix dates to the club’s 1999 opening, with its origins tied to a colorful character named Faye Presley. Faye’s passion for crafting the perfect Bloody Mary (and occasionally drinking one!) sparked years of experimentation and refinement. What started as playful tweaks to the recipe during her food and beverage tenure eventually turned into an institution at World Tour.
“This wasn’t an overnight thing,” says Marcus Beaty, World Tour’s Executive Chef, who has been with the club for nearly 25 years. “It took four to five years of tweaking, testing, and tasting. Everyone contributed ideas, from employees like me and Calvin Wheeler to our original owner, Mel Graham. When we finally got it right, we knew. The key ingredient? Pickle juice. It smooths everything out, adding that crisp, satisfying flavor without overpowering the drink.”
The proprietary mix, which boasts nine ingredients, is made fresh each week. For Beaty and the team, the effort is worth it. “We could just buy a mix, but that wouldn’t be the same,” he says. “Seeing the way people light up when they try it and realize it’s made in-house? That’s the reward.”
The cocktail has become a signature at the club, enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. Once a morning hangover remedy, it’s now a drink for any time of day. Some even order pitchers of the mix—a throwback to when the club sold mini bottles of vodka to pair with the handcrafted base.
“Our Bloody Mary isn’t about being fancy,” Beaty explains. “We don’t add bacon or over-the-top garnishes. The drink speaks for itself.”
So, what’s the secret to the enduring success of World Tour’s Bloody Mary? Beyond the pickle juice, it’s the pride and care poured into every batch. “We’ve stuck with the same recipe for years,” says Beaty. “It’s part of our history. And when someone tries to shortcut the process, we know instantly—it’s that personal to us.”
Next time you’re at World Tour, don’t miss the chance to enjoy this handcrafted tradition.
