Meredith: We’re at Litchfield Country Club today, and joining me is first assistant golf professional, Blake Landreth. Blake, thanks for having us out here today.
Blake: Absolutely, anytime.
Meredith: Well, I’m really excited to talk about Litchfield Country Club because you guys recently celebrated your 50th anniversary.
Blake: We did. Last November, we celebrated 50 years.
Meredith: Okay. Tell us a little bit about that and some of the history behind Litchfield.
Blake: Well, Litchfield was opened in 1966. It’s a William Byrd design, fantastic, older-style golf course, always in great shape. Our tees range from a little under 6700 yards down to 4,000, so we have a tee for everybody out here. It’s very friendly for everybody to play, but it’s also a challenge for the lower handicaps, as well.
Meredith: That’s one thing I love about having an older course like this.
Blake: Mm-hmm (affirmative).
Meredith: It’s very player friendly.
Blake: It is.
Meredith: For some of your seniors, those yardages are great because you could come out here and really get some low scores.
Blake: Yes, absolutely.
Meredith: Yeah, so I love that traditional feel here.
Blake: Mm-hmm (affirmative).
Meredith: You will get that here at Litchfield Country Club. Now, you guys recently were ranked number one in 2016 by the Myrtle Beach Golf Owners Association.
Blake: We were.
Meredith: That’s a great accolade for Litchfield Country Club.
Blake: Yeah, it was fantastic. Golf Course of the Year last year, so we were very happy to receive it.
Meredith: Yeah. When golfers come out to Litchfield Country Club, other than obviously having a phenomenal course and very player-friendly holes, what else can they expect? Maybe tell us a little bit about the scenery here because right behind us, we have these gorgeous live oaks.
Blake: Absolutely.
Meredith: Tell us a little bit about that.
Blake: Yeah, it’s just got a southern charm to it, you know.. It’s the low country, and it’s got a great feel to it here.
Meredith: It does.
Blake: Yeah.
Meredith: One of the great things too about Litchfield is because it’s been here for so long, these things are unchanging.
Blake: Yes.
Meredith: I mean, I first played this course personally over 20 years ago, and it’s exactly the same. It’s so cool. You come out here, and you have that nice, low-country feel to it. Now, if somebody wants to come out here and experience Litchfield Country Club, how do they go about booking? Can they call the Pro Shop directly?
Blake: Absolutely. They can call the Pro Shop directly, or they can book online.
Meredith: Okay, great. Now, you can book online at myrtlebeachgolftrips.com and definitely want to add this to your golf bucket list. Is there anything that you’d like to tell our viewers? Let’s give them one more reason why they’ve got to get to Litchfield Country Club.
Blake: Well, I tell you what. I have to say, the course is fantastic. It’s player friendly, but the customer service, I think, is a great reason that we get repeat customers. Our bag drop guys have been here for a long time, Bobby, James, and Eric, and they do a fantastic job. The customers are greeted … Their initial impression is very good when they come here.
Meredith: Right, so-
Blake: Those guys do a great job.
Meredith: That’s great, and they are. They’re phenomenal here, so another reason why you got to get down and check out Litchfield Country Club. If you like a shorter course, a little bit more traditional, you like that customer service, you’re going to find it here and that southern hospitality. You can’t go wrong here at Litchfield Country Club.
