Restaurant Review: Thai Bistro – Myrtle Beach’s Best-Kept New Secret

Fine dining, seafood, steak, Italian, burgers, whatever type of food you are looking for, Myrtle Beach offers it. But with so many restaurants, both locally owned and chains, how is a vacationing golfer to decide where to eat?

You can refer to TripAdvisor, Yelp or a number of other sites that provide user-generated reviews, but sometimes it takes those sites a while to catch up with a quickly ascending new eatery, a place like Thai Bistro, for instance.

Thai Bistro only has 27 evaluations on Yelp (4.5 stars though), but take it from a local with several visits under his belt, if you are in search of Asian food on your next Myrtle Beach golf trip, this is the place to go.

Thai Bistro is just a pitching wedge away from Myrtlewood and Pine Lakes Country Club and here is what you can expect at the emerging new eatery.

Tucked away in a strip mall just off 38th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach, Thai Bistro’s dining room is small but comfortable with a bar and a few televisions, creating a nice ambience to complement a menu that offers Japanese, Chinese, Korean and obviously Thai dishes.

For those who enjoy a little spice, the Basil ($16.99) features stir fried green beans, onions, bell peppers in Thai chili garlic sauce, and fresh basil. It’s delectable, especially when combined with beef as a protein and a freshly steamed bowl of rice. The dish complements a mild spice with outstanding flavor.

If your taste buds or stomach prefer to avoid spicy foods, the orange chicken ($16.99) comes highly recommended. Lightly battered and dipped in a fresh orange sauce, the chicken is perfectly sauteed, leaving you with a meal that is both substantial and relatively light.

Noodle bowls are increasingly popular and Thai Bistro offers an assortment of pleasing options. Whether you want the crispy shrimp pineapple curry (yes, it’s as good as it sounds), the traditional pad Thai or something in between, you won’t go wrong.

Bottom Line: The food is outstanding and it’s inexpensive – there isn’t a better entree in the area than the Basil for $16.99 – and that’s a hard combination to beat. Call ahead to check on seating if there are more than four of you, but Thai Bistro is one of the area’s premier Asian restaurants.
