When the days are short and temperatures are plunging, few things are more appealing than an emerald green Myrtle Beach golf course.

Sure, dormant bermudagrass plays great and some golfers prefer the golden-brown look, but it’s hard to beat a course that pops with color – especially for those suffering through a gray winter in the Northeast or Midwest.

Here is the list of layouts going green in 2024:

● Arrowhead Country Club is renowned for the quality of its year-round conditions, thanks in large part to superintendent Heath Roberts and his assistant David Herring, both of whom have been at the 27-hole property for 15+ years. Featuring several holes that play along the Intracoastal Waterway, any combination of the Lakes, Cypress and Waterway nines are a treat to play. (Arrowhead pictured right)

● Blackmoor, Gary Player’s only Myrtle Beach course, installed new drainage in 2023, and golfers will enjoy improved conditions and green grass throughout the property.

● Man O’War is built around a 107-acre lake and it’s devoid of rough and dormant grass. The Dan Maples design features America’s only back-to-back island greens – holes 14 and 15 – and the par 4 ninth is an island hole. Man O’War is a cool experience that is enhanced by all that green.

● Pawleys Plantation, a storied Jack Nicklaus design, is celebrating a comprehensive greens, bunkers and clubhouse renovation project by overseeding wall-to-wall, the perfect complement to the layout’s stunning marsh views. The course was already in outstanding condition in early December and will only continue to improve.

● Myrtle Beach’s first golf course, Pine Lakes Country Club, has overseeded wall-to-wall for several years and enjoyed spectacular results. This Golden Age layout is a pleasure to play and that will certainly be the case during the winter and spring of 2024. (Pine Lakes top photo)

● The annual host of the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship, TPC Myrtle Beach will provide a lush playing surface for the game’s next generation of stars and traveling golfers. TPC is on the short list of the area’s best courses and it’s in prime condition. (TPC Myrtle Beach pictured right)

● A links-inspired design, The Wizard will go wall-to-wall again in 2024 and golfers will be the beneficiary. Conjuring up images of the Old Country, The Wizard features large greens, generous fairways, and the opportunity to score.

Players can expect to find good conditions throughout the Myrtle Beach golf market this winter, but wall-to-wall green grass is always a bonus, especially when the weather is cold.
