Grande Dunes Resort Club To Host South Carolina Open, A Carolinas PGA “Major”

One of Myrtle Beach’s Best Layouts Will Challenge Palmetto State PGA Professionals

Grande Dunes Resort Club will add to its growing resume as a premier tournament venue this summer. The Carolinas PGA section (CPGA), one of America’s largest, has selected Grande Dunes to host the South Carolina Open July 8-11. “It’s an honor to host the South Carolina Open, and Grande Dunes will provide a great test for the best PGA professionals in the Carolinas,” said Matt Daly, Director of Golf Operations for Founders Group International. “Grande Dunes is one of Myrtle Beach’s crown jewels, and the course’s combination of beauty and challenge make it an ideal venue to host one of the CPGA’s most prestigious events.”

The South Carolina Open, a 54-hole stroke play tournament, is a CPGA “major,” and Grande Dunes will provide a picturesque layout for the Palmetto State’s best PGA professionals. The Roger Rulewich design, which can stretch to more than 7,500 yards, has four holes that play along the Intracoastal Waterway. Highlighting the layout’s waterway offerings is the par 3 14th, which plays from an elevated tee box that provides a stunning view and requires a pulse-quickening shot. Grande Dunes Resort Club has been ranked among “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses” by Golf Digest and is, by consensus, one of Myrtle Beach’s premier layouts.

Events surrounding the South Carolina Open will begin with a pro-am on July 8. The pro-am will feature a “shamble” format, and three amateurs will be paired with a PGA Professional. The tournament will raise money for PGA REACH Carolinas, an initiative that benefits the lives of children, military veterans, and diverse populations in the Carolinas through golf. Grande Dunes co-hosted the PGA Club Professional National Championship in 2014, and it has hosted numerous CPGA tournaments, including the 2015 Section Championship.
