Heritage Club, Glen Dornoch Waterway Golf Links and Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club have joined impressive company with their first-time inclusion in the South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel’s “Top 50 Golf Courses” rankings for 2016.
Located in Pawleys Island, Heritage Club comes in at No. 38 on a list topped by the renowned Kiawah Island Resort’s Ocean Course, which has hosted the 2012 PGA Championship and the 1991 Ryder Cup competitions. Glen Dornoch, the Little River design situated along the Intracoastal Waterway, enters the rankings at No. 44.
Pawleys Plantation in Pawleys Island makes its debut on this list at No. 49, having recently hosted competitors in Golf Channel’s “Big Break Myrtle Beach” at the peak of its popularity as one of the Grand Strand’s only Jack Nicklaus signature designs.
These three courses are part of a list dominated by private courses – 38 in all, including renowned designs at Sage Valley Golf Club in Graniteville (No. 3), Greenville Country Club’s Chanticleer Course (No. 5), Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan (No. 6) and Secession Golf Club in Beaufort (No. 8).
In addition to the three aforementioned Grand Strand designs, four additional public courses in the area returned to the rankings, including:
- The Dunes Golf & Beach Club (No. 7)
- Caledonia Golf & Fish Club (No. 10)
- Tidewater Golf Club & Plantation (No. 26)
- True Blue Plantation (No. 42)
The Grand Strand’s private clubs on this list include Wachesaw Plantation in Murrells Inlet (No. 29), The Reserve Club of Pawleys Island (No. 35) and Debordieu Club in Georgetown (No. 43).
