After reading the writeups for Wildwing our group decided to schedule a tee time there for our spring trip to the grand strand. We were told at the clubhouse that the course played the full 18 with no turn after 9 holes so take what we needed for snacks etc. but the cart girl would be around on the course. We were lucky we at least grabbed a hot coffee and water since the temp. was in low 40\'s. After playing a number of holes we finally saw a ranger and asked where the beverage cart was. He responded \"oh the cart gal called in sick\"! ( what no backup plan?) A couple holes later we decided to let a twosome ahead of our foursome. A couple holes after that our friendly ranger came around and said he appreciated us letting the twosome go ahead of us but could we pick up our pace so they could get more golfers out. That was a first in over 25 years at MB. ( we were keeping pace until we let the faster twosome ahead of us.) In spite of the fact that the greens were good (fast) and fairways ok, our experience was diminished by the fact that many tee boxes were hard to spot with the short squatty tee markers and the asphalt cart path would rival the worst potholed road in NY state. ( someone told us later in the week that they heard the course was in transition) ( whatever that means). We found it hard to fathom how this could be the second most expensive course we would play that week. So get better T markers, fix the cart paths, hire a sub cart gal, make sure a group is actually slow b/4 ragging on them and make it a good experience for the next group. I know it won\'t be ours!!!

Very disappointed. Good layout, but course and restroom facilities were not in good shape. Cart path crumbling throughout course; bathroom fixtures old and need replacement. Windows outside bar in clubhouse dirty. Not worth the nearly hundred bucks we each paid to play.

Played here before and came back because I liked the layout. Course in excellent shape and enjoyed my round. Wasn't in town specifically for golf but glad I played here again.

I play there every year and have never been disappointed! From conditions to staff to pace of play, one of the best in the area.

This is a good course and in good condition, but overall a bad experience. We started on time, but quickly found the place of play very slow. At one point on the back nine there were three foursomes waiting to tee off. It took five hours to complete the round, and considering this course does not return you to the clubhouse between nines a five hour round is way too long. The other issue I had was that the sandwich I got from the beverage cart attendant had cheese that was obviously molded, as in cheddar cheese is not supposed to have blue dots all over it. I luckily found the mold when I opened the sandwich to put on mustard and mayonnaise. I got rid of the cheese and ate the ham. The beverage cart was long gone when I discovered the cheese. I live in Murrells Inlet and have been playing golf here (mostly on the south end) 30 years, and this (bad/spoiled food) was a first. I thought I should tell someone in the clubhouse, so after we finished I went to the only attendant I saw in the bar/restaurant and let her know about the sandwich. I thought perhaps she'd offer to refund my money for the sandwich, but she didn't. I didn't make any demand, and inferred maybe she didn't believe me. She asked if I told the beverage cart attendant about it, and I explained I had not, because I didn't find the mold till the beverage cart was gone. I also told the pro in the pro shop about the moldy sandwich, since I thought perhaps he would let someone in authority know. I figured he didn't make the sandwich so maybe he'd tell the head pro or someone in authority. I may have gotten the wrong impression, but to me it seemed nobody cared. Bottom line for me is although it's a nice course, it's not worth the drive to and from based on my recent experience.

course was in really good shape despite some overseeding. good practice facilties. chipping area could have used a little mowing but minor complaint. very playable. hidden gem that is off the beaten path from tourists so always able to get a tee time even last minute and given its location is priced lower than other courses that are of comparable quality, but closer to rte 17. links style that prevents you from returning to clubhouse until round is over but on this saturday we saw the beverage cart 4 times so it works. played in 4hr 20 min

Course is in excellent condition. Long, difficult, challenging but rewarding. One of the better courses in Myrtle Beach. With COVID it will seem like at times you are playing on your own private golf course, especially if you're an afternoon golfer. At $35/round, also one of the best values in Myrtle Beach golfing right now.

Fantastic day of golf! From the moment we pulled into the grounds,from the staff to the clubhouse to the course itself everything was exceptional! This course will remain on our must play list when visiting Myrtle Beach!

The clubhouse and the grounds could have been in better condition. The course had a nice layout but the greens were not great. They had a mower leave oil in lines on multiple greens which caused some significant dead spots and poor putting. If in good condition I would like this course but unfortunately it was considered a low budget course in our group due to general condition and up-keep.

Course was in great shape. Greens had recently been sanded so they were a little bumpy. Play was slow, but overall a good experience.

Beautiful course! Plays longer than yardage on the card, but the course was in MAGNIFICENT shape! Great course for $60. Rivals some of the best courses in Barefoot at North Myrtle Beach and at a fraction of the cost. This is the type of high quality golf that is only seen at private courses in New Jersey or courses that would minimally get double the cost or more. This course is a true gem. Fairways and rough were green and lush. No barespots anywhere to be found. The greens rolled true and fast. Find the correct line and pace and you are rewarded for sure. I will play again!

Great challenging lay out

Great value. Pleasant staff. Paired up with a couple that were members who were great fun to play with. Relaxed atmosphere, finished in under 4:30 which was good. 18 was tricky, definitely need some course knowledge.

Played Avocet as part of family reunion. The six of us had a great time! Course is in great shape, beverage cart service was phenomenal, staff in pro shop was great. The pub was very nice with good food and COLD beer on a 100 degree day. Will definitely return and highly recommend this course. Probably the one thing that could improve are the cart path conditions.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. The pro shop is HUGE and has a ton of great stuff. Not too mention the course was in phenomenal shape, some of the best Bermuda grass greens I have played on. Definitely a place to visit!

The golf course was great the rest of the experience was very poor. No cart girl no players club no way to get drinks on 100+ heat index only water on course was by number 7 hole by that time we were over heated.

I would have liked to know that I could not get my money back when one person in my 3 some was injured and could not make the tee time. I had to pay anyway. The pro shop attendant stated that I could get a VOUCHER for that missing person but NO money back....how about that for business? I payed for a product that I did not receive. I promise I will never recommend Ambassador to anyone. I golf around the country and have not encountered this treatment before. Very disappointed with this experience. The golf course was exceptional though.

Pro Shop and guys at bag drop were very nice and helpful, as was the starter and the ranger. Golf course is decent but really needs much work! Cart paths on the back 9 are horrendous! No restrooms on back 9? Really!?

Nice course but horrible pace of play. Starting on the 3rd hole, when spacing between tee times became moot, we waited several minutes on EVERY shot. When we got to (literally) every tee, group ahead was either still waiting to hit or were just teeing off. That is with marshals coming around quite often. We had a lightning delay on 12 where marshal held up play, but irrespective of that, it was a 5 1/2 hour round (lightning delay extended it to over 6 hours). Unacceptable!!!

Course is in great shape!

I played here the last day of my trip to Myrtle Beach and I was delightfully pleased to have saved the best for last. The course was in immaculate shape and significantly better than the other courses I had played. The staff was helpful and courteous, as well as very friendly. Will definitely make this a permanent stop on future trips.

This is always a regular stop for my group every year. The course is consistently in great shape and the staff is very friendly. We love how there is no homes out on the course, it is very scenic. I recommend the Avocet course at Wild Wing to anyone heading to Myrtle Beach. Also, this year they informed me that they have started happy hour in the pub everyday at 4pm. We got off the course and enjoyed some cheap drafts and a very good cheeseburger!

Course was in better condition than any other course I've played in Myrtle Beach. Fairways prime and green, the greens rolling true and quick. Staff was very courteous and professional.

Nice course and in terrific Conditions. A little long from the senior tees at 6000 yards. It had not rained in a week and they were cart paths only. They came up with some lame excuse that they had sprayed the course, not once in 18 holes did I find anything on my golf ball. There is a hundred course in Myrtle Beach area you don't have to play a course that has no considerations for customers. Why not notify people that they are going to be CPO so they can make their own decision. Staff in club house had an attitude that we asked why CPO, made us feel like we were other in them. More or less said we could go play somewhere else if we wanted. We have 16 golfers that play e times a week and will not return to Wild Wing.

I played this course reluctantly after reading some reviews and seeing a rating somewhere below 8. While I haven't played all the courses on the Grand Strand, I have played 29 of the top rated courses. I can't tell you how impressed I was with this course. The greens were immaculate, rolled perfectly. Couldn't ask for more with the grooming to the fairways and rough. The staff was courteous, professional and prompt. The layout was interesting and fun. This course is on my top five list. We were riding on fairways soon after considerable rain. Don't pass it up. We didn't eat at the grill.

Drove 250 miles for cart path only on some really wide fairways. Will be a question for course chosen in the future. Overseeding does not help ball to sit up.

They had too many groups stacked too close together so there was a good bit of waiting. It was 99 degrees and we didn't see the drink cart until the 17th hole. Nice course but wouldn't recommend playing unless you're expecting a 5 hour round and bring your own beverages and ice.

The greens are slow. Otherwise the course is a hidden gem. The attendants need to be proactive in cleaning clubs at the end of the round.

Incredibly slow round. We were on pace for a 5.5 hour round before we gave up and ended the round on #15. According to the ranger, there were no specific groups holding up the course - they recently moved down to 8 minutes between tee times which jams too many golfers onto the course. Everywhere I looked, there were at least 3 groups per hole and often 4. This course seems to be more worried about revenue than player experience.

I love that this course single tees every day and I can get a tee time after 9am. Course was in great shape and the service was very good. Fun course. The greens were huge and undulating. We played over the 4th of July weekend and had a blast. Avocet is a great course in great shape. Friendly staff. This is one of the best courses we have played in myrtle beach and is a nice change from the same old myrtle beach courses. This one has a lot of character. We will be back for sure

I was very happy with Avocet. Course in very good condition and greens were very good despite recent aeration. I was very surprised at how few players were on the course! This was a great layout and I would play it again. There were a few amenities missing, like no beverage cart, no towels or tees on the cart, that would make this a first rate experience. But an excellent course in very good condition nonetheless.

Course conditions were great. Very challenging course, but fun to play. The service from the pro shop and starters was great. The only issue we had was with one of the rangers on the course. Just seemed like an old man with nothing better to do than complain about something. We were moving fine, keeping up with the groups in front of us and playing from the right tees, however, he made a point to disagree.

Very nice course. The only thing was that after 9 holes you just start the 10th, You are not near the club house to stop and get something to eat or drink.

Course was in good condition considering all the rain. That was the only issue - there were some areas that did not drain well. However, that was really minor and only affected play on 2 or 3 holes. Overall, an excellent course I plan on playing again.

Great condition and course has no housing surrounding each hole! Gives you a feeling of true golf , you and the course! Great design with many varied holes of risk & reward. Good pace of play and bag attendants were very helpful. This is the best we have played and the price was well worth it!

Best golf of the week. We had the first tee time of the day and were able to play at the pace we like quick. Enjoyed the course and had a good BBQ sandwich after the round. We are coming back in the spring and cant wait.

There were a few greens with a big hump in the middle; we would have preferred a more gradual slope. Other than that, they were smooth and held the line. The layout was great and a fair test.

Great course, poor signage. We were looking forward to playing this course however learned they had just seeded the course and we were restricted to the cart path. We were fine with this however the Marshall was aggressively insisting that our play was slow. Even thought we were waiting for the group in front of us on more than one occasion. The staff were overall less than friendly and terse. Will not play this course again.

Everything was fine

We played the Avocet on Sunday, September 1st and found the course to be in outstanding shape. The fairways and tee boxes were well manicured and the greens were receptive to approach shots. The greens also were firm and fast which added to the challenge of playing a top course. The staff members (Austin--proshop and Mackey (bag drop) were kind, polite and professional as we check in for the round which only added to the pleasure of playing the Avocet. We enjoyed the variety of holes. Elevated tees and the mounding surrounding the greens made for a beautiful setting for a day of golf. Our favorite hole is the par 5 #15. The rolling terrain, split fairway, elevated tee, and a water hazzard on one side will challenge all levels of golfers. We would definitely return to the Wild Wing as it offers the best value for the money. Add that to courteous service and your day of golf is complete.

Wish I could say the course had better drainage. I will play it again, not when having too much rain.

Played the course the other day with my daughter for the first time. Tom the Pro was just excellent at getting us set up. Course was the best bang for your buck anywhere in the Myrtle Beach area ... very pretty and in super condition. I'm playing again in a couple days.

I didn't see a yardage book available. That might have helped some. We also got behind some people going very slow and the marshall never did anything.

Really enjoyed this course. I was a single and they let us start on number 7 to get around the other slower groups. Really loved the greens and the layout was nice. A couple of the holes were really challenging. Overall this course will test you, but also will be an enjoyable experience. 5 stars!

Great course, excellent condition. One of my top ten. Not very Lady Friendly. The ladies tees need to be moved forward a bit. They were right in front of the seniors on most holes.

The fact that there was not only water on the carts, but there was water available on the course was a good thing.

The greens not really all that green for all the money spent and articles written about how superb of condition greens at Avocet were. Had just recently been sanded and very slow and somewhat brown ... fairways were nice and I like how the course meanders so you're not really sure what is coming up next. Holes all look different from each other and that's exciting and challenging when playing. I guess my only beef were the greens - just pretty sad for what I was expecting from Avocet and the pictures posted of this course.

Wild Wing was changing their greens and they did not have adequate personnel. No water on the course. I would have like to have known where the hazards were on the course.

First ones off & played in 3.5 hrs. Course condition was great. Greens were good on Avocet. Played 9 on Hummingbird and 9 on Avocet because they're redoing greens on each course. Great value and time of play was outstanding. It took 5 hrs. to play Long Bay, which was in great shape, but 5-hr. rounds sour the round.

Front 9 was closed for surface work. Played Hummingbird 9 then back 9 of Avocet. Really liked the Avocet course. Hummingbird was a bit different than other courses I've played. Sand traps were VERY soft.

The course was nice, but some holes were difficult due to the natural areas ... found some holes difficult to locate.

My 9-year-old son and I had a blast at this course. This is the first nice course that we had played since starting to play golf this spring. This was my 6th game ever and it is a memory that we will not soon forget. From the check in to the check out the people were exceptional. I cannot say enough good things about them or the condition of the course. Do yourself a favor and play this course; I do not think you will be disappointed.

Played on Easter Sunday. Everything was in great shape except for the greens. The greens definitely have winter kill, but thankfully the course is replacing their greens this summer. Can't wait to see what they look like this fall!

Great service. Fairways nice, greens okay. Marshals need to speed up play. We had to wait at every shot.

Great course, links type as you do not return to club house until you finish your round. When we played it was hot, 95+*. You were allowed a small cooler, but no need as each cart had one on it filled with ice and water (no charge). Started was great, gave us pointers on how to play the course setup that day. Tees were smooth, fairways were more like a green carpet. Green and lush. The greens were firm and fast as one would expect on a hot day. Will play again, but will for a discount price online or @ welcome center first. Enjoy.

Had played the Hummingbird course 2 years ago and couldn't wait to get back to it. But disappointed in the overall condition this time. Lost a customer, sorry.

Greens were bad.

Very good layout with a nice balance of tree-lined fairways and water hazards, a challenge but it does not beat you up.

I'll get the negative out of the way first. The greens need help. Bentgrass but seem to have Common Bermuda growing in patches on them. While they don't roll too bad, they are definitely not consistent with the condition of the rest of the course. The rest of the course is immaculate! The tee boxes are pristine. The fairways are in excellent condition from tee to green. I played Avocet on Friday and Saturday. Had the first tee time on Friday and was finished in 3:40 playing in a threesome. I was scheduled for the 2nd tee time on Saturday but found that I had to be off the course by 11 a.m. for a commitment that I could not reschedule. Tim and Chuck in the pro shop were great! They got with maintenance and explained my situation and let me go off as a single before the first group. I was done in 2 hr. and 30 min. Very appreciative of their service & efforts in accommodating me. Everyone seems to be having issues with greens with the heat and lack of rain and the positives definitely outweighed the green conditions. I played King's North for almost double the price and would have much rather played Avocet 3 times. Get out and play it!

I loved the layout of the course. It is secluded and very pretty! For playing in August, the course was in great shape except for the greens, which I understand due to the massive heat wave MB has been having! We will play here again ... no doubt!

Great course. One of the best I have played on.

Decent course. I was a little disappointed with the quality of the greens but everything else was very nice. Quite a bit of poa annua on the greens made it a little bumpy but they still rolled decent, just a little slower than I like. Starter and bag attendant were friendly and answered any questions that we had. Paid $45 at 7 a.m.

Fairways like a green carpet. Better than a lot of greens. Starter asked if it was our first time at Wild Wing. As it was, he took the time to give us some pointers on how to play the course and suggested we play from the White Tee boxes. He was spot on, as we are not long hitters and the course can play long from the back tees. As it was a hot day, it was great to find that they have a cooler on each car filled with iced water (DASANI 6 oz. bottles at no charge!!!). Will play it again next time I am in town. Easy to find right off 501 near Conway. Also note that it is a No Return lay out, 1 thru 18 - no way for a stop off after the first 9. Put a snack in your bag and a drink if you want more than just COLD water.

Fantastic facility. Complimentary bottled water was a big plus. Course was in fantastic shape from tee box to greens. Online pictures did not do this course justice in seeing what a great layout it had. Thanks again.

The course provided a cooler filled with bottled water in the cart. At the turn, there was an opportunity to refill your cooler.

One negative comment - The range was closed because of our afternoon tee time.

Course was in the best shape of any course that I have ever played. It was a fair course and the greens were a great challenge. The course was evidently maintained at a high level and I would highly recommend it to any future golfers who vacation to the Myrtle Beach area.

This was the most enjoyable round of golf I've had in years.

Course was nice, but area around was unimpressive. They have closed over half the courses there to put up houses. Was on the slightly disappointed side considering what I had heard about Wild Wing and what we paid to play.

Arrogant staff killed cours many years ago due to poor customer service and attitude if all golfers were treated as my group were.
