TPC Myrtle Beach
Nestled in the Hammock Coast Golf Trail, TPC (Tournament Players Club) of Myrtle Beach is located in Murrells Inlet, a few miles south of Myrtle Beach.
The golf course was recognized by the Audubon Society as a Certified Cooperative Sanctuary. TPC is home to numerous types of wildlife, including the Great Blue Herons, swans, red foxes, otters and alligators native to the area.
But the wildlife is simply icing on the cake at TPC of Myrtle Beach. The pristine conditions of these manicured fairways continue to wow first-time players and regulars alike. The course, though, wasn’t satisfied. It has replaced its greens with Champion Ultradwarf and refurbished greenside bunkers with new sand and updated drainage. It adds to the overall feel that Grand Strand Players can get only at TPC. A former stop for the PGA Senior Tour, the 6,950-yard course (from the back tees) has elevation differences built into its native Lowcountry acreage. Finishing each nine, players will find two of the most fantastic holes on the course, including the one-handicap, 472-yard par 4 No. 9 and the par-5 No. 18, a hole that brings trees, water, sand and pure distance into the mix.
TPC of Myrtle Beach recently received a rating of 8.8 from reviewers at Myrtle Beach Golf Insider, with even higher marks from those ranking its fairways, pro shop and staff. Without question, TPC is one of the Grand Strand’s finest courses, evidenced by the fact that it has been given the prestigious five-star ranking from Golf Digest. Golfweek also ranked the Tom Fazio design No. 8 in South Carolina for “Best Courses You Can Play”. It has also been named “Top 10 Upscale Public Courses in America” by Golf Magazine and one of the “Top 100 Golf Shops in America” by GolfWorld Business. Most recently, Golf Digest ranked the course among “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses 2013-2014.”

This course was perfect. An absolute pleasure to play. The course conditions were immaculate. The grass was green and full, the greens fast, and the bunkers beautiful. The fairways were cut in a stripe patterns, which made it visually stunning. It definitely is a bucket list course to play if you get the chance. The clubhouse was fun to walk through and see all the Dustin Johnson and past champions lockers and plaques. The proshop had a great selection of apparel. The staff was courteous and very helpful. One of the best rounds of golf I have the chance to experience . . .and I got to play it with my son! Thank you TPC for a fantastic day.

A couple of the greens did have some large places where they were being patched, but they placed the pin far away from these areas so they didn't come into play often. By far one of the nicest courses I have ever played. The only reason for 4 stars on condition was because it was cart path only due to lots of rain the week before we got there. i want to start off by saying the layout was challenging but enjoyable. Now to the bad stuff. Tee boxes and greens looked like they had a virus on them and didn’t roll true at all. I showed up with 30 minutes till my tee time and the guy in the clubhouse asked if I’d prefer to move back 30 minutes to warm up adequately, and I said I’d love to. Little did I know that the starter was going to yell at me for “causing a scene on the tee sheet” and asked me “well why didn’t you just show up on time” extremely unprofessional and just plain rude. Starter made everyone uncomfortable that was around when he should have just radio’d up to ask the one who was running tee times.

We play in some seriously crappy rain from Tropical Storm Nestor that was coming through and I'm pretty sure the staff there thought we were nuts for finishing the round, but my wife and I had no issues with it. #9 at 445yrds with the wet fairways was not much fun getting no roll, but it was still an amazing time! We both agreed that this course needs to be played again and again!!!

TPC was the most expensive course we played on our trip, and my least favorite. The club house was impressive. Practice area was nice, but crowded. Course was challenging, calling for multiple shot shapes. Rough was difficult but consistent. The range and short game zone was great. My only complaint is that we were unable to finish our round. It was too dark to see by the time we got to the 17th, and we couldn't play the 18th at all. For the price, I would have hoped that we would either start a bit sooner, a ranger would move the groups in front of us a bit more quickly, or we would have been offered a small refund based on our inability to finish.

This has always been one of my favorite courses in Myrtle Beach. The course was in better shape than I have ever seen it (especially so close to Dorian), and the staff was as pleasant and helpful as always. I never have any doubts when recommending this course to anyone. My only caution would be to make sure you play the appropriate tees for you. The yardages are a little misleading, don't bite off more than you can chew here!

We went to get our lunch, the grill was closed, the bar served us a hotdog begrudgingly, there were meats cheese and crackers out on a table and we were told "You can't eat those". We had younger players with us and were talked to 4 times by the rangers even after we did everything we could to speed up including picking up and playing a scramble. We paid just like everyone else and purposely came later in the day to avoid slowing others down. I've played golf for over 40 years and it was in the bottom 5 experiences I've ever had.

TPC Myrtle Beach was the last course we played on our trip and it was a very challenging course. The practice range was excellent, along with the staff and clubhouse. I noticed that the sand in the bunkers was fairly packed down which made getting out a little more difficult than usual. This was likely due to the amount of people in and out of the sand throughout the day.

We played on Monday August 22. All 4 members of our group were pretty disappointed with... 1). Despite all members of our foursome being 12 hcps/lower and playing at reasonable pace, we were pushed entire round by groups that had 2 and 3 golfers. It got the the point of utter annoyance. There could be been a WAY better matching of these smaller groups of players with others. 2). Pretty much our entire front 9 (which we teed on ##10), at least 6-7 holes we were dealing with grass cutting equipment and other course maintenance crews. REALLY annoying! 3). Similar to ##2, we literally thought you were filming an episode of Ax Men with the log/stump grinders rolling/blarring on many holes. 4). Most courses give warming and/or discount when greens are top dressed. It affected the greens on 1-9. No warning were provided/given until we saw starter that morning.

I liked everything about this course but the older man at the bag drop, I arrived 1.5 hours early to warm up and eat lunch and he was rushing me to tee off early and share a cart with another single. The starter, (black umbrella on the side of his golf cart) was also not too friendly, he accused us of jumping holes on the front 9. I would have fired him for his attitude towards us.

Found the fairways a bit thin. Maintenance staff was incredibly rude. Not caring whether they were mowing as we tried to play. One of the staff deliberately stopped in my field if play to tell me my cart was not on the path after the cart path signs. My cart was pulled off the path 2-3 feet. I was not in the fairway. I was 75 yards away from green. This was extremely uncalled for and obvious that he just wanted to cause a confrontation. The person in question took an enjoyable round and ruined it. When I brought it up with the pro shop I was given a blank expression apology.

Was told the greens had been aerated a few weeks ago and you couldn't even tell. Staff was friendly and starters/rangers on the course were great. Clubhouse was very nice. I enjoyed the course and enjoy playing new courses but the next time I'm here I'll definitely consider playing TPC Myrtle Beach again.

As soon as you turn into the TPC Myrtle Beach you know you are in for a treat. An Immaculate entranceway leads you to a a majestic clubhouse. Tom Fazio gives you 18 signature holes. The Par five signature hole is my favorite because it challenges you to go for a green that is surrounded by water and sand.

The course was in great condition. The Tees and fairway were in great shape. A few greens have area need repair, but overall still in good condition. The speed of play is very comfortable. Great experience. There was only one matter that bothered me a little bit, that was the course had quite many working staffs along the course, it seems they were working on trimming tree branches or some other project. At a few courses, when I was at tee box and fairway near car t path, these working people did not stop their trucker. I had to play under loud noise, and of course I had a bad play on those holes.

I had my days mixed up. My tee time was for Wednesday, My eleven year old daughter (who played for free) and I showed up on Monday. The pro shop was very understanding. Since I was there, instead of sending me home, he switched my time to Monday and let us play ten minutes later than our original time. Course was in great shape. Greens and fairways had the look of PGA tour quality. On the first tee I inquired about the alligators I read about in a review. We were told where to find the gators and the sizes of them. On the third hole we ran into the marshall. He stopped to talk to my daughter asking how she liked the course. She again brought up the alligators. He told us some more information about the locations and sizes. By the time we reached number 7 the Marshall came back to find us so he could tell me daughters there was a gator sunning himself on the bank of the pond between 9 and 10. All in all we saw about 5 alligators and had great time golfing. I can't wait to go back next year.

Great course. Range does have yardage to the pins, however there is no depth perception since the pins are flat on the range. First TPC course range I've played that had this. Still good place to warm up. Only negative, they are not efficient at tee times. It's fine having dual tees in the morning, but when you play the front nine in 1:45 and see a group tee off on 10 which is there first hole and you play the back nine is 2:30, not good.

The TPC is a wonderful design & layout. However, the fairways are the worst in all of the Grand Strand! They try to blame it on excessive rain but that is simply not true. The fairways were in terrible shape even before the rains set in. If excessive rain is the problem, then why are most of the other courses in the area in so much better shape? I live in the TPC area and on the day after new year I took my visiting nephew to play at the TPC. It was terribly embarrassing! The course was unplayable. Until and if they ever solve this problem I will not be playing this course. As of now, I would not play it if it were free!

I really enjoyed the game however was very disappointed with the condition of the fairways as they were still very wet from recent rains. I was offered a raincheck before I started but didn't realize how wet it really was and since I am traveling on holiday and did not have time to return later, I played on. Most disappointment though stemmed because since we were started on the 10th after 1 p.m., which was more than half an hour late when we had a booking time for 12.28 p.m. and because of this we did not finish before dark. I play off 7 and I had a good score going on the front 9 and was -1 after the 7th, I got on in regulation on the 8th after hitting off in the dark, and then 4 putted because i was rushing to get on the the 9th tee hoping I may still find my tee shot in the dark, I didn't find it and didn't finish which was disappointing because I had a chance to shoot under par for the 9 if we had been started on time. All said though I still enjoyed the course and had a good day, but feel that our delayed tee time definitely left me feeling disappointed when I had a rare chance to post a good score on the front 9 which we played second.

Played Dustin Johnson's home course, TPC Myrtle Beach, today for the first time. I had a 1:12 tee time, expecting I would likely be playing with other golfers. That didn't happen. After hitting a few practice balls, the starter, Don, treated me as if I was a member. I played solo, and Don went out of his way to accommodate me starting me on the back, so no one would slow me down. I loved the layout of the course. It was in very good shape. Greens were still healing but rolled very quick and true. A few fairways had a couple bare places, but nothIng to complain about. I would definitely recommend playing this course if you are staying in the Myrtle Beach area. Thanks for a great round of golf!

This was an amazing course. It was a very challenging course. We played from what we thought were the men's tees but turned out to be the tips all day. After 3 straight days of rain the course was still in beautiful condition with the exception of the fairways being pretty wet. Just played TPC on October 15, 2014 and the conditions of the course were very disappointing. Many spots in fairway were dirt; tees were missing a lot of grass and some greens were spotty too. Too bad the price wasn't discounted, because the actual course was very poorly maintained. A bummer of a day, and we didn't have much fun.

I was extremely disappointed with the pace of play. It took more than five hours to play. Understandably, the course is difficult and play will be somewhat slower than normal, but I only saw the Course Advisor once. I would have liked to see more involvement by the Staff to speed up play.

This is a great layout, with the worst-maintained greens I have ever played in my life. It's a shame that a potentially excellent course like this is so poorly maintained. Bunkers are all washed out; you must play rake-and-place to have any chance. I imagine that during the spring and fall, this would be a must-play course, but I'd give it at least a month to get better.

The course was backed up when we played due to a frost delay which caused the front 9 to take 2:45 to play. The greens were in terrible shape - bumpy full of ball and spike marks causes putts to bounce off line very easily.

The pin placement was very unfair even for good putters, courses in Myrtle are played by everyday golfers and pin placement should reflect that!!!you grill was the worst!!! Boiled,then thrown on a grill for looks , then refrigerated till sale, then microwaved???? How about investing in a rotisserie for hot dogs...

Cart path only today for no apparant reason. Nobody could tell us why. Do they need 2 weeks of 80 degree temps with no rain to let carts out on the fairways? Even one of the rangers couldn't explain this. Nice course and its difficult. Pretty good conditions.

We played this course on 1/8/13. The course is great and the front nine greens were perfect. The back nine greens had been recently spiked and needed some rolling but were still playable. The staff were very helpful and obliging getting us out early. The course can be tough but it plays fair with good shots rewarded and poor shots punished. I found it not as narrow as some people reported and the water can be easily avoided. I'm a 9.3 index and played the blue tees. The only downside was the foursome of woman who played SLOWLY in front of us and this time of year there are no rangers to assist them along. I enjoyed the day very much and will plan on returning. I HIGHLY recommend this course.

Played in early November and was disappointed in the condition of the fairways. Several of them were burnt right in the typical landing areas. The pace of play was horrible. We sat for 45 minutes on the 2nd tee. There were 5 groups on the tee box. How can a course get that backed up on the second tee?? Seems like they just wanted to jam out as many groups as they could. It took 5 hours and 30 minutes to play 18 holes. At one point the ranger suggested that we should complain in the clubhouse and ask for a free 9 hole pass. When we did this, the guy in the clubhouse called the ranger and he denied ever saying that to us. I'll never go back to that dump!

My group and I were there and so tickled to play TPC of Myrtle Beach but should be called the step child of TPC. It is not a TPC course. From the time I showed up all the bag drop cared about was money not to welcome us. Then when we walked in to check into the golf course the head pro was very cocky and all he did was talk about himself and the RBZ 3 wood. That's not a TPC head professional. He was so rude; very disappointed. We were so excited to play this course. After 15 minutes of us being there it was the worst golf experience. In our next 15 mins. the starter didn't know what side we were going off. It was very disorganized. THIS IS NOT A TPC COURSE!

For a course that talks about tournament conditions, this didn't come close! Fairways were bare in spots. Bunkers were muddy and lacked quality sand. Played Pawleys Plantation and Indian Wells the days before. They were perfect. And half the price!

Greens were difficult (in a good way) you had to really work to make the ball stay close. The 93 I shot here felt more like an 83 to me because of the challenges. Overall very enjoyable!

Actually, there wasn't anything that I needed to know prior to our round. It was the TPC and you expect the course to provide a unique challenge, which it did. Not often when playing a round of golf do you have the opportunity to just take it all in, the TPC allowed me to digest a beautiful course today. How many times to you go to a course and feel as you are being rushed around to finish and at the end of the day, you have no memory of the experience or pleasure you had of the course? That didn't happen today, I observed Wild Turkeys, Water Fowl, and even had a Fox Squirrel come up to me and actually sit on my shoe while I gave it a few nuts I had left ... now that's what I call a unique experience. I will come back to the TPC of Myrtle Beach.

Course was beautiful and very fair. Greens were hard and smooth. Almost perfect. Only negative was the starter. I arrived very early to hit range balls and putt. Being a single, he wanted me to go with a threesome, incidentally, all of whom barely spoke English. The round took 5.5 hours and never saw the ranger until number 14. Nonetheless, despite not getting to warm up, I really enjoyed the course and will put it on the playing list when I return to the area.

We were on the 5th hole when a storm approached, horn went off and we went to the clubhouse. Soon as we reached the clubhouse we were sent back out. This happened 4 times in 20 minutes. Very disappointed in the lack of decisions that were made.

Played on 11/23/2011. Rained the night before and the morning of our 11 a.m. tee time, the staff was great, and in spite of the rain the course was in good shape and the greens were fairly fast in spite of the rain. Only complaint - the course needed a marshall as the play was extremely slow.

We played TPC on 11/22/2011. This is supposed to be a 5-star Golf Digest-rated course, but I can't understand why. I've played other courses in Myrtle Beach that are not 5 stars and are much better courses and in much better shape. Fairways were not good, the back nine had very little grass and was very muddy. The front nine was being overseeded and was not very good. Also, the marshall was non-existent, we had 4 threesomes on one hole, everything was backed up.

What a great golf course and layout, a near PGA Tour experience! You can't do much better when working with totally flat terrain. The best I played in Myrtle. The greens (mini verde) were near perfect which is 80% of the experience for me. I will play again. PLEASE, quit complaining about the staff. If you ever played any golf at all, you know that staff is hit or miss. So you run into one guy who is having a bad hair day and give the course a bad rating and complain for two paragraphs, Please!

Very nice course, but considering the price and expectations of service level of a TPC course I was disappointed. The surprise started with the extra charge for range balls that are complimentary at so many other courses that charge less. Next, there was no real direction of where we needed to go after paying. The bag drop people kind of just ignored you unless you asked a question. Once we did figure out that we needed to drive our cart to the practice range - where the starter is located - we were greeted by Are you the Smith group? When we said no, the starter kind of just pointed down the line of carts and said go down there and we will call you. We waited 1/2 hour until our tee time passed and walked up to the starter to inquire when we would be called ... He told us we were next and he will come find us when it was our turn. 20 minutes later we again approached the starter and asked why 4 other groups had been called when he originally told us we were next. The starter said, I called you and you did not show up! This was ridiculous. He had told us we were next and we waited there watching him while he called 4 other groups! The starter finally admitted he had made a mistake and put us out as the next group. This whole process made for a very bad start for the day and really soured the entire day. We spent the entire day waiting on every hole because they overbook their tee times. A top-of-the-line course like TPC should be run like a top course and not like my local muni course that charges $20 greens fees and tries to push out groups every 7 minutes. A simple reorganization of the starting process would go a long way at this course. At a minimum they should invest in a speaker system for the starter so everyone waiting at the practice range (where the starter is located) can hear who he is calling. Next trip to MB I will stick to a course like The Heritage - where they really treat you like a pro and appreciate the money you are spending at their course.

My wife and I played TPC on Wednesday, July 13,2011. We enjoyed the course layout and found that TPC was everything it was described to be - challenging, enjoyable, beautiful and with a very friendly staff. We were greeted at the bag drop area where a cart was ready and waiting. Next we drove to meet the starter at the driving range/putting greens. He was very friendly and informative. We were then sent out at our tee time and never had the problem of needing to wait for a group ahead of, or behind us. It was like having the entire course to ourselves. Upon our return to the clubhouse we were greeted again by a wonderful staff that had fresh cold towels awaiting us. Our clubs were then cleaned and placed in a secured area until we were ready to drive our car to pick them up. On a lighter note, beware of the extremely friendly squirrels ... they may try to ride with you if you have snacks. Keep up the great work TPC! We will definitely return.

The online booking agent did not disclose that the greens were recently aerated and that was the cause for the bad ratings there, however the golf staff was kind enough to permit a replay at a later date. They did not have to do that, but it was greatly appreciated. The layout is challenging and we can't wait to return under better green conditions.

Played on 6/24, and the greens couldn't have been any better. Rolled true and FAST, though they are known for being hard and they sure were. Yes, you could see that there were lines in the greens, but they were so well healed over that it never affected a single putt. The fairways were very good, just a little dried out on a couple holes along where the fairway meets the rough. The staff was friendly and attentive. A MUST-PLAY in the Myrtle Beach area.

Angelo, give me a break, I played this course 3 times in the past 2 years and NEVER had a problem with conditions. This course is owned and run by the PGA. Just because you didn't do your research like an intelligent vacation golfer and check for maintenance schedules, don't breed your poison on this site. I was in Myrtle Beach from 6/10-6/16 and didn't play T for that reason, get a clue!

This was the worst course I have ever played. It was in terrible condition. The greens had thousands of lines in them that looked like railroad tracks. The ball got stuck in them which made putting impossible. The fairways were burnt out and aerated, and the tee boxes were basically sand with a little bit of grass. I have played this course twice now and both times it was like this.

Maybe not tour caliber but still a super course for most golfers. My boys and I found it both challenging and playable. Excellent fairways and tees. The greens are quick and firm. We were the first group out in the afternoon and other than the heat, we had a great round. Staff was friendly to my boys and I and made it very enjoyable. We will play it again.

Played back in early April. Terrific, challenging layout with fast greens. #18 great finishing hole. Staff was polite and accommodating with exception of the starter, who was a total jerk barking orders as if we were a bunch of new recruits at boot camp. Course marshals, bag drop & pro shop staff were fine, but cart guys at the end also were abrupt and less than polite to a group of 16 golfers. They somewhat ruined what should have been a memorable day.

It was difficult to get a feel for the layout of the course because it was cart paths only so it was a lot of running back and forth. I just didn't feel it was worth the money we paid to play it.

To start off the only issue with the course was the fairways on certain holes. The previous day to our round it had rained all day so the drainage was not the best and left the fairways soggy. However the greens were in superb condition, the ball rolled true, they were very receiving for as firm as they were. Staff was very friendly and informative. The course makes you play smart from tee to green. All the par 3's were terrific holes but the 18th would be my favorite leading back to the clubhouse. I would certainly play this course again.

A bit spendy for what it is ... course was in good condition and layout was average to above average. Service was good and the course was playable. In comparison to True Blue, Barefoot Fazio, Tidewater, Tiger's Eye, etc., it's a step below pretty easily.
