River Club Golf Course
River Club opened in 1985 to rave reviews and was awarded 4.5 stars in Golf Digest’s “2006 Places to Play.” River Club’s brilliant layout gives golfers an unforgettable experience. The updated Champion Bermuda greens offer a spectacular but fair challenge.
River Club’s 14th and 18th hole are both featured in “The 100 Greatest Holes Along the Grand Strand.” The 14th is a difficult island par three with an undulating green. The signature hole is the par five 18th. It is the ultimate risk vs. reward hole where carrying the water with consecutive shots gives the golfer a great chance at eagle.

Been coming to The Grand Strand for 13+ years for an annual buddies golf trip, and we enjoyed The River Club. The course is in very good condition, and the layout really stands out among other courses in the area. The course is challenging, but very fair, and we had a lot of fun! You'll use close to every club in your bag. There is no driving range, so hitting into a net was a disappointing warm up. The staff were kind, but it seemed like they needed a few more people for a very busy day. We still find the tee times too close together, which leads to a lot of waiting, but we played in the busy season, so we were disappointed but not surprised. Even with all that, we said this one goes on the "play it again list" and recommend that you give it try.

A great layout and wonderful staff. We were able to run the fairways after some very heavy rains two days earlier. Greens aren't exceptionally fast but in good shape. The staff running the place is the best in area, friendly and helpful. The only downside was putting on wet greens, they hadn't whipped the greens on the back side and that is where we started. I find this quit unusual and most likely an oversight with the greens keepers attending to the front nine. Still an overall great day, we will return.

Greens roll true and at a good speed for the average golfer. Have a nice practice area for chipping and putting, but no range for longer clubs. Will play again if we stay in the area.

Very nice golf course. This is a dependable golf facility that will garantee a good time. It is an enjoyable layout. The condition is normally good to excellant. We played in less than 4 and 1/2 hours on a day when the weather was great for golf. The staff is very friendly and is trained well to help your visit here. They've added an on course GPS system that was helpful with yardages. As long as you remembered to push the screen to advance to the next hole, the system remained current with your location on the golf course. I've played here before and will play here again. Good layout for the advanced to the beginner golfer as well........try it, you'll like it..!

I ranked the starter as Poor because of his actions toward our group at the turn. I specifically look at my cell phone to determine the time we tee off as I am very aware of slow play. It was 9:10am. At exactly 11:24am, we were in the cart heading toward ##10. The starter accused us of slow play and I explained to him that our first tee shot on ##1 was at 9:10am and that we were within the 2hrs 15 min allotted on the scorecard. He was very rude and said that's not what he had on his sheet, but we spoke to him at the practice green, not at the tee. If they are going to make accusations, then the facts need to be correct. And, rudeness that he displayed will not be good for people returning to your course. The course was very nice, but I would hesitate going back because of this experience.

The course was billed as advantageous to longer hitters. While this is true of a couple holes like #18, the premium is put on accuracy off the tee. Many holes include doglegs or shortened fairways with water. The greens are nice and subtly difficult. Overall, it's a nice place to play for the average golfer. Lower handicapped players might be looking for a bigger challenge.

The course was fine, just didn't like the fact that the sprinklers came on at the end of the round. My wife booked the round as a surprise for me and her stepfather. She booked us a late tee time and upon arrival at the course I was notified that at 7:30 the sprinklers come on. We tried to play as fast as we can but were stuck behind a 5-some for 4 or 5 holes (4-9 or 5-9). One club staff member came by and asked us how it was going. We told him about being held up but we were still stuck behind the group for a couple holes (they left after the 9th hole). So we were caught in the sprinklers starting on the 14th hole. I've never played a course that allowed a 5-some or would allow a group that was playing slow to hold up another group. Also I'm not sure why you allow a late tee time if the round could not be completed prior to sprinklers turning on (cart stated expected play time 4 and half hours, tee time 4:56 PM, and sprinklers at 7:30). Course was as well kept for the time of the year it is. Most courses here in KC have been brown for months now. Great course layout and hole placement.

Just played this course with my wife yesterday. It was in great condition. Staying at our condo at Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort. I just saw the comment about the greens and not sure what was wrong with them unless it was the light sanding done because of the grooming. I play in the area a lot and a lot of the courses have gone to this new grass and they all do this. They rolled great. Fortunately for us the course wasn't busy and we played in just over 3 hours. We just played this course and loved it. Even though there is water on many holes we didn't lose many balls even though we are relatively new at golf. It had lots of options to make it challenging enough for good players and doable for newbies. The fairways, greens, and tees were gorgeous. I would play here again and again.

Staff was wonderful. They knew how to make sure you were welcome. Tee boxes, fairways, sand traps were 4.5 our of 5. The greens had some rough spots. Of the 90% without rough spots, they rolled true. The course winds through homes bordering the course (or the homes wind around the course?) which can be distracting at times. The group scored the course 3.5 out of 5.

River Club was very nice. I liked that it was a very challenging course. Greens were slow in the morning but later in the day they got quick. Favourite holes were 14 (par 3 island), and 18. I believe these were the signature holes. Staff was very, very friendly and helpful. When I left my 2 clubs at the previous hole's green, he went and got it for me.

Nice layout, The greens were in excellent shape. The number 18 hole is a great finishing hole and with a drive of about 225 from the middle tees you turn a par 5 into a long, manageable par 4. The course marshals are friendly and courteous and extremely helpful. The staff in the pro shop was the most friendly I encountered during my trip. There are nicer courses in the area but none as friendly. I would recommend this course to my friends.

The course itself was in excellent shape and the greens were some of the best in Myrtle Beach at the time. The starter was absolutely great and a huge help being the first time I played there. Unfortunately the pro shop clerk was extremely rude and irritable with me and my group basically because we were young guys playing, but meanwhile we are all serious golfers one of us had played in Nationwide events and I am a teaching pro so I found it very unprofessional to treat us the way he did.

Played the course Sunday and the greens were really good. Someone said that the bentgrass greens were beat up from the summer. If they were beat up they have recovered. My only issue is that other golfers don't fix ball marks. I watched a group in front of us and I never saw anyone bend over to repair a ball mark the few times I was looking at them and thinking about ball marks.

Was wondering why the reviews for this course said the greens were anywhere from very good shape to worst shape possible, all within just a few days of one another. After playing it, I'm figuring now it's because of the look of the greens - they're not perfectly green like bermuda greens tend to be. But they're rolling just fine. Don't let their look fool you, or take away from a quality golf experience. Nice people, great conditions overall, great experience.

Very good B+ course. Although they didn't break very much, I felt the greens ran very true at about a 10-10 1/2 on the stimp. Fairways and tees were in decent shape, rough wasn't that difficult. The only problem I have with this course was the over-loading of bunkers jetting into the middle of the fairways. I don't mind it on a few holes but it felt like almost all of them. Staff was very friendly, will go back sometime.

HAd most semi private feel of all courses played that week. Greens take obviously the brunt of the play. I know I repaired 4-5 significant ball marks per green. Bent grass just doesn't tolerate that kind of neglect from people who play the course. Would suggest course marshalls that encoursge pace of play, repairing divots and especially ball marks on greens.
