Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club
Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club, a Jack Nicklaus masterpiece introduced in 1988, is renowned as one of the Myrtle Beach area’s most scenic and challenging courses. Rooted in its history as a former rice plantation, the course has garnered numerous accolades over the past decades, including Top 22 in South Carolina (Golf World), Top 10 on the Grand Strand (South Carolina Magazine), America’s Top Courses (Zagat), 4 Stars in Best Places to Play (Fodor’s), and Top 25 Layouts (Golf Digest).
In 2023, Pawleys Plantation received a thoughtfully designed renovation from the Nicklaus design company that enhanced the course’s playability and preserves its unique charm. This update highlights the beauty of its natural landscape, bringing modern refinements to Jack’s original vision.
Among its standout holes, two are sure to catch any golfer’s eye. The signature 13th hole, a short but demanding par 3, plays between 40-150 yards depending on the tee, and Nicklaus made full use of the marshland’s natural dike in his design. The shot to the peninsula green, with its slight slope from back to front, is regularly influenced by coastal breezes, demanding a precise tee shot.
The finishing hole, the par-4 18th, provides a memorable close. With the picturesque clubhouse as a backdrop, this hole requires a solid drive while avoiding the marsh and sand on the left and a wooded area on the right. The long, narrow green, framed by water and sand to the left, calls for a precise mid-iron approach to finish with a par and a smile.

Bill
Great course, greens hard & fast
Jerry
Course was in very good condition but it always seems to be wet every time we play there.
Kent
Nice course.
Rey
Excellent
David
Fun course with a few very tough holes.
William
First time playing since the renovations--excellent. Many of the fairway waste areas were removed but has not taken away any of the challenge this course presents. It's important to play the correct tees especially because of some of the distances of the par fours. Greens were firm and fast firm and rolled great. The green complexes have increased dramatically in size which will make for more difficult pin locations (lots of undulations) Look forward to playing here again soon, very friendly staff.
Sue
It will be perfect when the changes settle in
Gene
It was very windy that day which made the course challenging.
Keith
This was my second time playing the course. Really enjoyed it although it was backed up in some spots.
Patrick
Nice course good conditions. People very nice
Mark
Great course, can’t wait to see the improvements
Sylvain
Beautiful course
Jonathan
I really enjoyed Pawleys. The Par 3s were all challenging but fair, and a lot of really interesting hole designs. Greens were firm and quick.
Graham
Wonderful day of golf, lunch and drinks.

Pawleys Plantation is a awesome golf course. I have played it at least four times in the past couple of years.
Steven
Enjoyed the course, very scenic. Challenging holes
James
Great course and friendly staff and golfers
Jason
Very challenging course, but in great shape.
Ward
Our second time playing this course. We usually opt for less expensive courses, since there are so many in the area, but holes 12-18 are so majestic with views of the marsh/ocean, we had to come back. Not disappointed.
Joe
Great condition, beautiful layout, very friendly staff
Kevin
Course was in great shape. Very pretty and picturesque holes.
Rex
Scenic and challenging, nice conditions
Bill
Friendly staff- made a serious effort to make you comfortable. The course was in great shape, especially the greens. They were receptive and rolled true.Superb value.
Roger
Not the course to start a golf trip on, You've got to be ready for tight fairways, wind and marshes on both sides. Grass was a little sparse.
James
Challenging but fun and good greens
Steven
Fun but challenging. good conditions
Henry
Challenging but beautiful. Good conditions
Martin
Always a fun course

Amazing layout, amazing conditions and great employee interactions.

Beautiful place. Fairways were decent. The greens were impossible to hold. Honestly don't know how anyone scores there.
Randy
Good course, fun to play and it moved along nicely.
Roger
Great course layout and very friendly staff
John
Very challenging course! Very friendly staff in pro shop. Will definitely play again (with less Wind) hopefully. Wish it was a little cheaper to play.
Matt
Difficult course, especially in the breeze. Staff did good on a busy afternoon keeping everything running well. Temporary re-routing was a decent way to make the best of bad situation.
Paul
First time I’ve played there without it being 5 hour round; closer to a more enjoyable 4 hours.
Joe
Stayed here for 2 months and played course several times. Course is very challenging, lots of sand and great greens. Beautiful scenery everywhere. Pro shop staff is very friendly, couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
Skip
Great Layout excellent Tees, Fairways and Greens considering the time of year. With 6 tees to choose from it offers players of all ability to play from a tee where they have a chance for a good score. I will definately play there again.
Kevon
Loved the challenges of the layout - oak trees in the middle of the fairway, par 3’s over the marsh, use of all the clubs...
Kevin
Great shape. loved the fairways and greens where in great shape. Personnel was great from the time we pulled up to facility.
Sean
Jeffrey
Tough but fair design, great holes overlooking the marsh. Made par on the short par three which made my day. In good shape, will play again
Richard
Tough but fair layout. Greens rolled smooth, will be back
Kevin
Bunkers were terrible. Tee boxes were bad. Fairways and greens were good. Need to be cut though.
Eddie
Great course, there could have been some sort of discount because of the greens being punched and sanded.
Bryan
Always love playing Pawleys. We got paired up with an awesome couple who golfed very much like we do. The course was beautiful.
Charles
Outstanding course. Liked the multiple tee boxes. Staff were very friendly. Course in great shape.
Tim
Pretty disappointed with the condition of the course. Numerous tee boxes were in poor condition, multiple greens were in terrible condition. Not a great experience.
Staff Response:
Hi Tim, our summer transition has been slower than usual as we do have 2-3 greens that are shaded. I’ll be reaching out directly to you with the e-mail you provided. Thanks, Brian Lewis Head Golf Professional
Corey
This is a new favorite. Exceeded expectations. Would highly recommend to anyone that enjoys golfing near water.
William
We were pleasantly surprised with the excellent course conditions. It is a memorable design set along the marshlands.
Lisabeth
Love the course. Back 9 fairways were not as good as usual
Bruce
Great condition.. fantastic greens. I enjoyed the course more then any that we played on this trip. Very friendly staff
Josh
This course is awesome. The layout is great for every golfer and it was in great shape.
Jack
Awesome golf experience
Lorie
Unfortunately not a huge fan. There is sand everywhere and it just didn’t set up well for this left hander. I wasn’t impressed with the greens, they were inconsistent hole to hole. In terms of staff and pace of play it was great. I just wouldn’t recommend this course to anyone who isn’t comfortable with sand play.
Bob
Really windy day made it longer and tougher but still a good test.
Josh
Best bang for your buck course around, one of my all time favorites!
Greg
Great course. Good value.
Keith
Awesome track! We will be back
Shane
Great course in awesome shape. Had a great time.
Kevin
Excellent scenery, course condition and greens
Billy
Wow!!!! I will most definitely be back!! I wished it hadn’t taken me so long to play here!!
Dale
Perfect condition! A real treat to play. No doubt one of the best!
Barry
MBN didn’t get our modification of tee time coordinated with the course but staff moved things around and we got out an hour late.
Drew
A well thought out and challenging course layout by the Golden Bear, himself. Conditions were great and almost every hole had a unique beauty to it and made the experience of playing very enjoyable. The value for money was excellent and I would definitely play the course again when I have an opportunity to come back to Pawley’s Island.
Phillip
We play there often and enjoy it. Great shape and friendly staff
Randy
Great design and very challenging, first time playing a Jack Nicklaus design and it did not disappoint
Richard
Golf course was good. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Scott
One of my favorites--every hole is different. Fun round
Robert
Pleasure to play, staff very professional, pace of play good.would play again
Paul
Beautiful, challenging and very well maintained course. Friendly and helpful staff.
Johnny
Very good
John
Beautiful golf course many scenic holes. Unfortunately was wet and greens were slow as a result of overseeding
Cody
Enjoyable but greens too slow
James
Spectacular course. You can tell it was designed by a multiple major winner. Each shot from the tee shot to the putt on each hole has to be considered. The greens are undulating. I did not have straight putt over 5 feet all day. That said, I really enjoyed the challenge. The staff were very friendly and the views were awesome. If you putt out on each hole, and you shoot lower than your handicap you have had a very good round. My wife enjoyed it also.
John
The staff was friendly and the course was in good shape.
Craig
What an awesome course and equally amazing experience. My wife and I played it after a rain which was the only crappy part...they had it on cart path only which seems to be my kryptonite for some reason...It was my worst round of the trip sadly, but still had a great time there! We will be back to tame the Strands Shortest Par 5!!!
Jim
Great course. Really enjoyed the challenge the course presents. Really enjoyed the round.
Ken
Everyone enjoyed the course. Rated it as our favourite of the week.
Brady
Very nice. Staff was great. Golf course very nice. Greens could have been a little faster. Relaxing!!!
Jeff
Well kept and somewhat difficult. Par 3's and rough very challenging, but I and my group really enjoyed it.
Matt
the course is awesome. played here a few years ago and loved it then. ended up with a few rainchecks and was able to use them. staff was welcoming and very courteous. no questions asked regarding chits. my wife and i would definitely like to return. thank you for all your hospitality. matt
Graham
Great fun course, super professional staff that helped us.
Stephen
Good course, if a little quirky.
Thom
Very nice track. Tough but fair.
Jeff
Tough but great.
Daniel
Overall, a pleasant experience. As a twosome, my playing partner and I flew around the first 9 in less than 90 minutes, which was great. As we approached the 10th tee, we were notified by the Player Assistant that we would have to wait on the 10th tee for two foursomes to tee off. It felt as though we were penalized for playing too fast, which is a rarity in the game of golf nowadays. I understand that tee times are to be respected, however I believe that common sense could have prevailed to know that a twosome could tee off and be out of the way of the two foursomes in less than five minutes and that it would not cause disruption to let us continue our round. As a result, we sat on the 10th tee for over 20 minutes which killed our momentum and rhythm and lead to a slower and worse playing performance on the second nine. We greatly enjoyed the front nine, but were irritated with our pace of play on the back.
Fritz
Only got 9 in but nice course. Will be back when in area again.
Ward
We have been vacationing here for a dozen years or so and try to play new courses each year. With so many courses, we have usually kept to the under $50 range, so Pawleys never quite fit. We got a pre-aeration $42 rate, so my Fathers Day was made. This course is all you can ask for. Staff is super. Course is challenging, but fair. The front nine will lull you into thinking you are having a good day, then the back nine will bring you back to earth. We had a beginner, a good player and then me (a good hacker) and all of us enjoyed the day. The beginner bought balls in the pro shop and was asked if he wanted quality or quantity, so a 24 pack of Noodles fit. As usual, playing a course for the first time will add strokes, so I recommend using an app or buying a yardage book. The recommended tee box comes with a 140 slope, but the next forward tees results in only 5,500 yards, OK for seniors and high handicaps, but too short for average play. Overall, very fun. We will play again, even if it costs a little more than our normal round.
EDMUND
EXCELLENT course! Staff/personnel/environment again, most user friendly! We shall return.
Bill
Great layout, demanding holes, excellent greens, beautiful views, what more could you ask for.
Dave
Beautiful course. Everyone was really nice and welcoming. Definitely will play again when I come back.
Joan
Good looking golf course, well taken care of and the back 9 gets tougher.
Hugh
This is one of the best courses in the Myrtle Beach area. It's tough, but a lot of fun. The course was in pretty good shape when I played, although the fairways and greens were a bit rough. Staff here is great.
Andrew
Great course, a little hard ground wise
Carl
Enjoyed playing the course, thought it was in decent but not great condition.
Bob
Funky design, felt like playing miniature golf of some of the holes. The Medallion yardage markers did not match the scorecard or the on-line scorecard. Lots of bare spots in the fairways. Staff was friendly and courteous.
Robert
well above average course, not in the top level though.
Gregory
Nice course. Greens and bunkers were great. Fairways had some spots but overall good condition. Bag drop guys and burgers were great.
Michael
I liked the overall layout. The course was challenging. I did not like the two island greens hitting off a bridge.
Keith
Nicest course we played this year. First time playing here, but definitely won’t be the last. Great location, course was in great condition and staff was very friendly.
Alfred
Overall good course, one hole, I believe 13th was a short shot over the marsh, felt a little gimicy>

The course is quickly becoming one of my favorite lowcountry courses. It was in great shape and with a super friendly staff.
David
Love the layout. . Wasn't in great shape.
Doug
one of my favorite courses

Chris
challenging course especially marsh holes
Carbin
Awesome course!!!
Marc
Caledonia was the most scenic of the 3 courses we played which included MBN Kings North and the River Club. The course was in good shape but not great and that included the greens. It may have been the weather since we played on Saturday March 9th. MBN Kings North was in much better overall shape. The experience and the scenery at Caledonia is what separates itself from the other places. Everyone was exceptionally friendly. The pro shop had a great selection and good deals. Our wives road along with us during our round and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. A little pricey for the early March conditions, but I would definitely come back.
Sean
Super nice facility! Played Cypress and the lakes and would go back! Dog legs and the yardages were tough!
Scott
Pawleys is one of my favorites in Myrtle, never disappointed at the views.
Bill
In my opinion one of the best layouts on the entire Grand Strand. Beautiful views throughout the course and a great variety of holes. The greens were a little sparse, but they rolled nice. I will definitely play it again.
Tom
Awful. Have played many time before. This was the worse I have ever seen! Front 9 was unplayable. Should have been closed! I will not go back.
Gary
Other than just being very wet the course was very nice. Greens are great.
William
Love it!
John
Played as a single on a Sunday afternoon. You never know what you are going to run into as a single. The friendly staff got me out on the course a half hour before my scheduled time and gave me some helpful tips and instructions. The course was in good shape and the layout is challenging yet not overly difficult. Everyone on the course was very friendly and let me play through and I finished in under 3 hours. The only thing that could have improved was a beverage cart which never made an appearance on a 90 degree day. Other than that, everything was great. Will definitely return.
Chris
We had a very early tee time so the rains over the last 15 days had the course a lot wet ...mother nature....but our experience from the staff was awesome. Course layout wonderful and challenging for our novice level. Recommend highly
Lee
This is a very beautiful and very challenging course! Women's tee's are placed well
Clint
Incredible course, will be back time and time again.
John
My favorite course in Pawleys Island! Love playing the Duke holes! Played 36 there last April! Hopefully this spring too!
John
Love Pawleys Plantation! Been playing every tear for 15+ years! Two rounds already booked for march 2018! This course is always in great shape! Staff is always top notch!awesome marsh views and a cool dyke that crosses the marsh with two tee boxes to par threes! Great challenge! Oh and keep a eye out for the no tail alligator!
Mike
What a fantastic place! The course was awesome, and to top it off, it is a Jack Nicklaus Signature. Jack didn't disappoint with this layout. Challenging, fun, and extremely beautiful. The staff is super courteous and helpful. Snack bar and restaurant were wonderful. On my list to play every year.
Cory
Beautiful day, beautiful course! A must play when you are here
Ed
Great Jack Nicklaus design, course in very good shape. Enjoyed the holes on the marsh very much. May be my new favorite course in Myrtle Beach
Aaron
Played Pawleys Plantation during the Eclipse and had a great time. Course in great shape and thought the marsh holes were awesome, what a view. Look forward to playing here again.
Miguel
Course and conditions were nice. However, lots of sand on this course that had not been groomed in days. Overzealous marshals pushed us 4 due to a twosome and threesome behind us. Nice course but play in the afternoon if you want to play at a regular pace. Otherwise they intend to rush you through your round. Oh, and don't stop to use the bathroom either...Also, It may be women friendly but not kid friendly....
Mike
Great Layout, Staff, Course Conditions, Pace of Play! Couldn't be better. Visiting from MD.
Bill
Love this course! Probably one of my top three courses to recommend to people coming in from out of town. Beautiful low country setting with established lush layout. Has both challenging holes for avid golfers, and playable holes for people just picking up the game. I've played here many times in the three years I've lived in the area and I can honestly say the course is never in bad condition. The groundskeepers do a great job all year round making it an enjoyable round. The staff is friendly from the bag drop/pro shop to the snack bar/restaurant. They make you feel welcome.
Jim
The layout is fantastic, the course conditions were great. The staff treated us very well. It is a course I will definitely play again and put on y Myrtle Beach rotation. My favorite hole is 16, a very demanding b UT beautiful part with the marsh and the actual Pawleys Island in the background. I wish I had my camera with me. The pictures I n the website are better than I could take because of the use of a drone, very picturesque. The food in t g e was very good and the O rices were reasonable. All of the staff from the proshop, bag drop, rangers who helped me find my ball, and the wait staff were kind, friendly, very helpful. I give this a very high rating
Brennen
Course is in the best shape I have seen. Greens are in excellent condition. Any past issues have been resolved. Hats off to the greens keeper. All around great club. A must play!
John
This place is fantastic! From tee to green (especially the greens) the course is in superb condition. I would recommend this for any golfer. Can be challenging, but it is fun and fair. Staff takes care of you from bag drop, starter, course ranger, and golf shop. The pub is great for post round drinks and the food is excellent. These folks know what they are doing.
Jennifer
Beautiful club. Course is great! Back 9 is one of the most scenic in Myrtle Beach. Will be back.
Norm
Despite the recent previous reviews the back nine continues to suffer from the hurricane. Debris on the fairways and many areas saturated. Parts of fairway have been designated as ground under repair. Very disappointed in the conditions. Greens were slow and grass long, however they did roll well and true. Would not play this course until after the spring. Front nine was better condition.
Tom
This is a fine course. Everything on the golf course at least 8 out or 10 condition. The pub area was very nice, and the people there are all very nice.
David
Greens and fairways were in great shape. Back nine views are incredible as the course takes you twice through the marsh. Don't need your driver if you play from the white tees due to many dogleg fairways. Great course and will definitely play again.
Paul
Slightly different from the other courses in the area as it goes out into the marsh for several holes which makes it a bit special. It demands accuracy rather than length and my driving was wayward so I spent a lot of time in trouble. Staff were very friendly and helpful as with all the courses we played on this trip. We did not eat there so cannot comment on the grill. Course was in good condition (Caledonia is my benchmark). My wife found the proximity of the houses to the fairways intimidating. I personally would want to play again if my game was in better shape.
Jordan
Greens have recovered quite well from their spring conditions. It's worth a return trip!
Jong
Nice course layout. Tough but fair. Back nine reminds me of Tidewater with nice views of the marsh. Conditions were pretty good except for the greens. Very slow and lots of rough patches due to some type of fungus that has killed the grass. Local couple that I played with said that greens should be healed in a month or so. Hopefully the greens will be back soon. Will play again once the greens are back. Staff was very nice especially bag guys who got me started early in front of a large group. Thanks.
Mike
Course is not in good shape. Rough is dirt and greens are in very bad shape - bumpy with fungus. Asked before the round how the greens were and was told by the starter that 3 greens had fungus problems...It was more like over half were bad. Would not play there again until conditions improve.
Thescupper
Course is not in good shape. Thin fairways, rough is dirt and greens are in very bad shape - bumpy and looks like a fungus. Would not play there again until conditions improve.
Scupper
Course is not is good shape. Fairways are thin and rough is dirt. Greens are terrible. Save your money.
JimV
Wonderful play with a great layout. The back 9 is a true challenge. Unfortunately, caught up to a fivesome (yes, I said fivesome) on the back nine which created quite a backup. Guess no Rangers are on duty in the afternoon. Anyway, highly recommend as a must play when in the area
Oscar
I am a Senior Citizen over age 70 with an 18 handicap.. I loved this course. However, my shoulders stiffened up on the back nine and caused me all kind of trouble. If I get to play this course again, I will go to the RED tees to tee off. The course is very beautiful and I enjoyed it immensely. The fairways were in excellent shape and the golf ball rolled true on the greens even it was in November. This was my dream course to play in the Myrtle Beach area.
Jeff
We had 10 golfers. So we had open spots, and they were going to put another golfer with us, (which was no problem). But I wanted to get information from them so I could organize my own group, and they didn't communicate very well. Acted like I was bothering them. In the end it all worked out.
Robert
Greens had too much slope and runoff.
Bob
Excellent.
Gary
Outstanding.
Bill
Course was extremely wet but all comments in our group were favorable. Definitely a good test of golf. Premium on accuracy and distance control. We played the gold tees and are glad we did!
Bill
Really good
Scott
Nice layout. It got a little confusing for a three or for hole stretch on yhe back nine. Two real short par threes that you really needed local wind and club selection knowledge on
Chris
Very unique course in very good condition and a good challenge. The par 3 island holes were unlike anything I've ever played or seen.
Dennis
The course was in real good shape, just not a great fan of the layout. I know that this is a Nicklaus course, but am not a fan of trees in the fairway to have to hit over or around.
Robbie
Slightly over rated course
Mel
We played the white tees which made the course too hard for some in our group (handicaps over 25). Suggest making hybrid course selection possible (mixing the tees to make course 300-400 yards shorter for seniors).
Bill
Do not like this course very much. Too tricked up with water, sand, and marsh.
Chris
We played the course for the first on our yearly golf trip. I did not care for the tee boxes as they were crowned and not level. The fairways were not in the best shape which may have been due to the harsh winter the south endured. However my beef was as we finished our first 9 holes and started on hole 1 what do we come upon? Why a SINGLE walker Chuck who must be a member and was carted out to fairway after he teed off.We were told we would never see him again.Wrong we saw chuck for 7 holes.I realize that walking is a great part of the game but to put a walker out on the course on an afternoon on a Friday? I am a member of a private club in PA and walking is only allowed at certain times during the week. The course was challenging and would come back to try it again.
Bill
Beautiful course. Very scenic with the marshlands. Probably not wise on starting with this course after taking the winter off. I lost 11 balls in the water and marsh. My favorite course of the week though.
Mark
Fantastic
Timothy
Pawleys Plantation is always a great time. We played it on 1/20/14. The overall course is in very good shape for January. I have to say the staff was GREAT because they gave me the CHOICE to get paired up with another twosome or just play with my wife. I chose just us because my wife is not a strong golfer and can feel uncomfortable with being paired up. I can't emphasize how nice it was that we had the choice.
Dan
Greens were in good shape for being dormant. Rough was playable for all skill levels. Tee boxes were in good shape. I like the contrast between the overseeded fairways and the dormant rough. Helps for aiming purposes and is visually stimulating. I've played here many times before, once they finish the construction on 11 the par 5 will open up and be more accessible for players of all skill levels. The views are a most see and I recommend this course to all golfers visiting the Myrtle Beach area.
Walter
The staff, course are always top notch even in January the course is in great shape.
George
I have played golf in 42 states and Pawley's Plantation is one of the most beautiful places I have been. The layout and care taken of the course are second to none. George L
Paul
Loved the course. It is just the right distance for senior golfers and provides a great test of golf. Greens were outstanding.
Lin
Great facility!!
Harold
This is a beautiful challenging course. I have played it 2 times and it was in great shape both times. This course is a must play in the grandstrand area.
Roger
This was a great course to play. We (my group) think it is one of the best of the southern courses. We played Nov. 2013
Gary
Great course, everything was great. Pro shop staff very helpful to find a 9 hole replay in pm at another course (Willbrook) because there was no room in pm
Michael
The course was in very good condition. The layout was good, although not as interesting as Pawley's with the marsh holes. The only downside was that I was a single put with a slow group. The Marshall's tried to keep us on pace, but it was a tough battle with those 3.
Eric
Enjoyed playing it although we will probably do so earlier in the trip (it was the last course, afternoon, and you don't want to be tired playing this track!). The grill was excellent.
Bryan
As a single, i was told i would be in about four differet groups of golfers none of which was my tee time
Jim
I had the pleasure of playing PAWLEYS PLANTATION yesterday. The course is in EXCELLENT condition !! ... Greens are outstanding. The resources that MBN has poured into this great Nicklaus design make it a must play. The views/vistas on the back nine overlooking salt water marsh and Pawleys Island are compelling.
Don
The course was in good shape. Fairways are tight and need shot placement. Greens still sandy from aeration, not consistent. We weren't happy to start on the back nine without being told that when we booked time. It was very busy with regulars that played casual golf...all about speed and not about the rules. We played with a very nice regular player. He helped us with many of the must knows. Pretty views, but not our favorite course.
Karl
Holes set-up beautifully. The course has a great geography, the trees and planting are awesome, and the near ocean marsh holes are fantastic. The staff treatment was top notch. I would definitely return.
Stephen
Disappointed in the course condition and staff outside. We were clearly treated as outsiders. We will not choose to play here again.
Emil
Great course I would like to try again in future
Patty
This Course is by Far one Of Top 10 on grand strand. Pawleys sits Right Up there with Tidewater and Caledonia. The Course Is women friendly and in EXCELLENT condition.... The golf Course is beautiful! Worth playing At least once a year.
Dennis
A contstant favorite of our group, the holes on the back 9 are beautiful both to the golfer and to the eye of any human that loves nature.
Tom
Nice course but did not fit my eye or game
Dave
Very enjoyable course great greens
Michael
Good course, could have had a little more help at the start of round. Only problem was the over dressing of sand on the greens. Golfers that book packages need to know when any over seeding or top dressing occurs. What dates this has happened and when the greens will be fine. A must. Will play again.
Tom
The majority of our group didn't care for the course lay-out and found it rather boring. Also, one of our players had his first hole-in-one at age 70. The Pro Shop was unwilling to do anything for him or offer him anything to remember his accomplishment. In my opinion, this is just terrible for a group of 20 guys who chose this course to play!
Don
The 13th hole should be relegated to a goofy golf layout. Looks as though the course designer laid out 17 holes and then had to plug an 18th hole in somewhere.
Chic
Windy and cold that but still had a great time.
Ralph
Great staff, beautiful course, some of the trees in the middle of the fairways where annoying,
Herb
Course was very busy when our group played that day. Greens were not in the best of shape & very, very slow. Nice layout, but thought some of the large trees in the middle of fairways were a bit unfair.
Ray
Greens were slow and furry
Patrick
Great starters and proshop attendants. The course was great but had a lot of houses around it. Would definitely play here again.
L
Layout was interesting, course was in OK shape. Pace was tolerable in the morning, but very slow in the afternoon. I played three separate balls on each hole, and still was held up by the group in front of us.
Domonic
Beautiful course always a great golf experience, especially the back nine!
Dave
Great!
Timothy
Played on 2/16/13. A few of the greens were roughed up from play but for February they were acceptable. The layout is nice and the scenery can't be beat. I would recommend a day at Pawley's. Just beware the 2nd hole which is the number 1 handicap, it plays a lot harder than it looks.
Sandra
Level ladies tee boxes
Shawn
Nice course. Would play again.
Steve
Great experience
Scott
Great layout, we had a lot of fun. (Even though we accidentally snapped our buddy's driver in half).
Lloys
You have a great course. From its reputation, I thought it would be harder than it was. My biggest problem was being distracted by the beauty of the course. Be proud!
Matthew
Excellent experience.
Joshua
I would say this a great overall course. The unique set up of the course, the friend and accommodating staff made this course a pleasure to play, would definitely play there again. For the 6 rounds I've now played in Myrtle Beach, this is definitely tied for 1 of the favorites.
Damon
Course was in great shape. Greens were quick.
P.
Relatively tight fairways, trees and tee box placement make this course an inviting challenge! Well-maintained.
A.
Very good.
Dan
Unique holes out in the marsh. Nice people in the grill.
Stan
Causeway par 3's were spectacular.
Michael
I enjoyed my round. Course was a good test. The staff was good, however, my wife was waiting for me in the grill and was ignored and overlooked for another male golfer. It did not leave a good impression on her.
Jimmy
Good.
Donna
Very pretty looking course and challenging greens.
Kevin
Beautiful course great holes and scenery greens tough to read but can't wait to play it again. Pro shop was nice as well as the pro.
Bob
Decent track, except hole 17.
Stuart
The staff were very friendly and explained the course in detail. Their expertise and knowledge made my experience here the best of all the courses I played. The course was in immaculate shape with the greens rolling perfect. What a fun course to play. I will be back. Thank you!
Michael
Excellent course.
Patrick
Great layout and not cart path only like the others.
Neil
I was a little disappointed with the condition of fairways. For an upscale course fairways were not lush. Several of holes on back nine were really beautiful. All in all it was a great day on the golf course ...
Stephen
I play Pawleys every year when on vacation. I like the fact no homes are involved, you are not penalized for hitting into the rough, the greens are consistent, bunkers contain nice sand, views are spectacular, visual view from tee box sets up for a great drive. The cart attendants were polite and helpful and the pro shop staff was professional. The ranger took a picture of us on the majestic par three on the back nine - a nice gesture.
John
Very challenging course.
Brad
We played Man O' War earlier in the week, and this course was much different in terms of quality and difficulty. Unfortunately it rained our entire round so did not get the experience we hoped for. I would like to play it again in dry conditions. The development was very unique in its layout and architecture. Certainly appreciated the par 3s in the marsh, very creative way to present the product. Glad to have played the course.
Dennis
Course was great.
John
Loved the course. I have been to Muirfield in Columbus to watch golf, and this reminded me of what Nicklaus did at Muirfield. Beautiful course, great time, will definitely play again. It quickly became one of my favorites.
Paul
Extremely nice course for the price.
Jim
Awesome track, holes 13 and 17 are fantastic par 3s over the marsh.
Kevin
I love the course but the greens especially were in very pour condition. Not the fast manicured greens we remember.
John
Great layout. Very fun course to play.
Jean
THANK YOU for your magnificent course, the best I have played in Myrtle Beach. This week was my best round ever (83 from the gold tee); when I go back you can be sure that I will be stopping by your place. It is a GOLF EXPERIENCE TO REMEMBER - THANKS AGAIN.
Phil
Excellent course. Good staff.
Lee
Course was in good condition, greens were a little rough around the edges, but did not affect play and where they had the hole placed. Fun course, will play again ...
M
One of my favorite courses in the Myrtle area. Great course condition and always challenging. Beautiful views and course layout. Thanks for another great golfing experience!
Steve
Pawleys Plantation delivered again as always, I was on vacation with the family and worked in a p.m. round for $35 through an online tee time. I will be back in Myrtle in early August with the guys and wanted to check the conditions of the course. I thought something must be wrong with the course to offer such a low price for one of my past favorites. The course was in great shape, front side greens were perfect, but the back had sand on them. They still rolled great, not sure why they were sandy. You didn't even notice the sand until you were on the green. Overall, great shape and will bring the guys down to play this gem for sure.
Rob
Staff was fantastic. Obviously great leadership from the top.
Rob
Overall course was nice. Greens were extremely sandy.
Mike
Got there late because GPS takes you nowhere near course - so we met no staff, ran to first tee, saw gator on par 3 few holes later, didn't even have time to take a picture, still running. Loved it 20 years ago so I came back with my son-in-law, who just started playing. Don't love it anymore, will not be back, way too many houses along fairway, I felt so bad for him. Too hard for a beginner.
David
Very challenging layout. Flags need crystals, so rangefinders would work or carts need GPS. There is quite a few forced carries and trees in fairways. Tees are not very level and 2 of the par 3 tees have no grass on them. Greens were quite slow and had been punched and sanded within last 2 weeks, but had bare spots. Some pins were in poor locations based on the conditions of the greens. We would play here again based on the course layout, but we will definitely call about the condition of the greens prior to booking a tee time.
Mike
Great course and staff!
Larry
Excellent condition. Staff was very courteous. Will definitely play again.
Rick
The Club Championship was being played directly in front of us, 5-hour round, was painfully slow. Wished we would have known that. Course was in great shape, and is absolutely beautiful on the back 9.
Steven
Played this course twice during the week of June 18th to June 22nd. Course was in great condition and very scenic. Pace of play was decent. Very pleased with the condition of the course! This was one of the only courses that had not recently punched their greens in this area of the Grand Strand. Only negative was the snack bar closed before 4 p.m. during our 2nd round. Overall we were very pleased with our golfing experience.
John
Pawleys was simply a really nice place to play. Except for a tree or two in the middle of the fairway, I thought the layout was very good. The fairways were sparse in just a few areas but that did not take away from the enjoyable time we had.
William
Fabulous experience with the golf. The bartender however was not very personable. We felt like we were bothering her. Just seemed very odd to have that kind of wonderful golf course and then receive indifferent service. Just thought you should know.
Jay
(Liked the) greens, marsh views. Course was too crowded. Had to tee off on back nine. Would rather play course 1-18.
Jason
Great price. Terrific views. Friendly staff. A bit rough because of the cart-path-only. That par three over the marsh was excellent. Can I complain about anything ... sure, the 100 or so white pickup trucks in the parking lot that took up almost every available space.
Edgar
The course was in great shape from tee to green. It was a typical Jack design. Small greens well protected.
Todd
Slow play and rangers did not enforce.
Adam
Nice course. Well maintained. Pretty tight in some places so you need to be able to get off of the tee and hit it straight.
Ben
Beautiful golf course! Guys at the bag drop were spot on! Gave us all the info about practice facilities, grill, and pro shop! The range was very nice, lots of targets for a great warm up! From the first tee to the last every hole was very consistent! I love how the course looks! The course wasn't very long but with the houses and unique doglegs you had to move the ball around some, which makes it nice! It's fun to play not having to hit driver, wedge all the time! The only con I can say about the course was under some of the trees there were some bare spots, but you are not suppose to be there anyways! Overall very nice golf course! Played with a very high handicapper and he also enjoyed it as well, very fair course for anybody as long as you play the course! Loved this place and will return!
Justin
Great course, great condition, great price. Booked the first tee time of the day online (7:30 a.m.) and played the front 9 in about 1.5 hours. We had no idea they were double-teeing that morning, and the starter was a complete (jerk) about it as we sat on the 10th tee for 30 minutes, attempting to make the turn. The back 9 took close to 3 hours to play (including our wait on #10). Disappointing experience at a good course. I would be hesitant to return.
Judy
Very nice course but would have really enjoyed an outdoor porch for lunch.
Pete
My favorite course was Pawleys Plantation. The par 3's was the best.
Lloyd
Excellent overall.
Bob
Great course - beautiful but demanding. Fairways not in optimal but certainly fair-good condition.
Michael
The pace of play was very poor. 5 1/2-rounds are unacceptable. Good chance we will not play here again. Recommendation: marshal the pace of play or you will start losing more players than the ones you are scared of losing because you don't want to offend anybody. We are a group of 8 players. Economics of not controlling the pace of play can be astronomical. Same as Tradition.
Larry
Greens were in pretty rough shape. Fairways were OK, but not excellent. I expected more from a Jack Nicklaus signature course. Not the bang for the buck.
Lee
I liked the layout. Unique holes but condition was not at peak. Sandy greens, no rough and fairways were spotty.
Tracy
Beautiful course. Speed of play was good. We misjudged time it took to get there and got there 2 minutes before our tee time (our bad). The attendants were great at getting us to the tee quickly.
Jack
Excellent course, especially the 13th and 17th holes (par 3's over the marsh areas). Can see the areas to hit the ball, too, if we never played the course before. Course was in excellent shape and staff very friendly. Will definitely play again.
Raymond
I liked the whole experience.
Sean
Quite a few of the greens were in surprisingly rough shape, wouldn't expect that on a great Nicklaus course. Very beautiful layout nonetheless, Holes 13 & 17 unique & memorable but sadly the green on 16 had large areas under repair. Lots of leaves on the fairways.
James
Overall good fun course but disappointed in #13 & #17. Those holes seemed cheap & awkward.
Dewayne
I was disappointed in course condition, even considering early spring. Greens and fairway turf was patchy, inconsistently maintained. We had to shoot to one of the short par 3's while the grounds crew was replacing sod on the green! Several holes, especially par 3's were quirky in design. Price was not commensurate with the quality of the course.
Victor
Back 9 par threes definitely unique, especially in the wind!
James
Outstanding course. You get the full Pawleys Island experience.
Vincent
Cannot make a fair judgement on the course as it rained the whole round, but I will be back to hopefully play it in better weather.
Robert
Very unique set of par 3's on the back, perhaps the most intimidating 40-yard shot for a senior golfer (#13), #17 is a great one-shotter.
David
Have played Pawleys twice from the tips. It is by far the most visually intimidating course we have played! Very tough course and loved every minute of it! I highly recommend this on your places to play.
Brian
Great course even in the winter. Wind was strong and if you get out of position, you pay for it. This course demands both accuracy and length. One of the most scenic on the Strand.
Bo
AWESOME! The whole facility is fantastic. Got married here and return every year with kids to play golf and relax. Love this place!
HOTC
Disclaimer: This is my home course, where I live and play most of my SC rounds. Still, the course is in historically excellent shape after purchase by MB National. The downside for members like me: tougher tee time acquisition and longer rounds. That said, it is still among the best of all Grand Strand courses, a challenge from any tee box. The greens are putting truer than in years, although a little more speed in cool weather wouldn't hurt. Front nine tougher than back, back nine more scenic than front. If the wind is blowing, the short 13th is tougher than 17 at Sawgrass (the green is much smaller too). The layout makes a 5-hour round tolerable, if you are not in a rush. Aaron
It was my first time playing a Jack Nicklaus-designed course. The course was in fantastic shape. My only complaint was the number of trees in the middle of the fairways. To me, that is pointless and it is very annoying.
Mary
It's a very unusual layout, especially with the extremely short par 3 and the bridge out to the other holes. Makes for a very interesting round.
Sean
Played this course in Feb. 2011 and it was a great experience. Lots of water and awesome layout. The par 3's on the back are awesome. Can't ask for more. Greens were fast and in great shape - will play again in 2012.
William
I will not play here again. The course was not in great shape and they send you out right on the heels of another group. On EVERY hole there were 3 foursomes. The course is hard but that is all it is. Just hard. Few options unless you are a scratch golfer. The back 9 (13-16) are fun holes as long as you have a sandwich because you're going to wait up to a half hour to play the short par 3. There are MUCH better courses to play. I would like to play it in less than 5:45 minutes to have a better idea of how it is. I am a 7 HC.
David
The course was in good condition, but the fairways were thin.
Bernie
Staff was not very friendly, course in excellent shape.
Chip
Unique layout, marsh views, variety of tees.
Joyce
We've played here before and it was as enjoyable as it was the last time we played.
John
Made to feel welcome.
Gerald/Joanne
(Would like to have known prior to play) what hole I would be on when I had taken 72 strokes. Not a big fan of the short par 3 on the causeway (probably because I went for the far right pin and came up about two feet short when it hit the wooden wall). Hitting 7 iron next year.
Jim
Everything perfect, slow play.
Charles
One of the best courses I have played in Myrtle Beach (70 and counting). Greens were fantastic. Everyone that works here that I encountered was very nice. Loved 13, 16, 17. An enjoyable course to play from number 1 to number 18. Will be here again.
Douglas
Excellent course. A little more difficult than others in the area. We liked the course and had a good time. The staff was good and the pace of play was typical (4 hours 15 minutes).
Charles
Liked the par threes. Nice, wide fairways.
T.
Played there on Sept. 16. Great course and staff. The fairways and greens were top-notch. Will definitely play again.
Michael
Sand traps were not raked - seemed to detract from an otherwise great course. Also, were delayed at the turn for 20 minutes due to double tee times.
Samuel
Very nice course, I will play again.
Jim
Was on the course for a charity tourney, right after Irene passed through. I was astounded at how good of condition the course was in after getting several inches of rain less than 24 hours before. Hats off to Pawleys Plantation for a tremendous experience!
John
My favorite course. Young staff who really care about your experience being positive. They love the game and are not there just to be able to play free, but learn how to offer a golfing experience due to love of the game.
Charles
The two par 3s on the back nine did not fit with the quality of the rest of the course.
Michael
This is a must-play course for anyone going down to MB. The front side is fun but the back 9 is where the action picks up. I was in the sand more than a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model but don't let that deter you - yes, lots of sand, but a fantastic place to say you played. The long, narrow tee boxes for the par 3's won't soon be forgotten. The staff wasn't rude but they didn't go out of their way to show they appreciated your business.
Tim
This was my first time playing Pawleys Plantation. I had read good things about the course and was not disappointed. Course was in great shape. Greens rolled true. Fairways were lush. It was also a very picturesque course. While I liked the view and design of 13, it was a bit quirky with it playing so short. I would play here again!
Ed
The tee boxes on the strip, over the marsh, were fun ... had not seen something that unique before! Course is in really nice shape.
Alexander
Very nice and helpful members.
Darrell
Nice course - very enjoyable.
Steve
It's one of our favorite courses.
Dan
Holes along marsh are very scenic and challenging. Course was in very good condition, especially the greens. 16 and 17 are my favorite holes.
G
Excellent golf course - this is always on my list of go-to courses in the area. Greens were excellent this week.
Daniel
Interesting layout. Some unusual tee boxes ... made us think! Believe the greens had been recently aerated ... not terrible, but would have been nice to know in advance.
Joseph
Overall great. Excellent experience.
Billy
No rangers on course. We were a group of 4, and we had a twosome hold us up the entire round.
Paul
Large traps, well-maintained course for its age, but need to add ball/club washers on carts like other courses.
Woody
I found the course to be a little tough but very fair ... nothing tricked up about it. I wish I could play there every week.
Steen
Hole 13 and 17 are weird, but interesting.
Jerry
I found the golf course excellent. My only issue was the sand in the bunkers was so fine that it took some getting use too. I played other golf courses in the area and found them better.
Rickey
Beautiful golf course, had some really tough holes though. Very unique.
Paul
Ultra-interesting layout.
Mike
This course has some goofy holes vs. the other courses we played (i.e., the dyke holes). Can't change that so over all the experience was good.
David
Played there in early May ... course was well groomed. Layout is very good and different, with a couple of signature holes. Have traveled down to SC for the last 7 years and will keep this course on the agenda.
Daniel
The marsh land holes were the highlight of this round!
Rene
Our group loved it!
Steve
GPS in the cart would have been nice.
Mike
Great area.
Frank
Very good, enjoyed.
Terry
The greens were a bi##$h.
David
Greens were in poor condition.
Wallace
Hated the par 3 on back on marsh that played only 55 yards from white tees the day we played.
Scott
Greens were slow, bunkers were very good, fairways and tees good.
Anthony
Loved the short par 3. Extremely intimidating.
Kathy
I like the creativity of the holes and the complexities to strategize my best options.
Brian
The golf course was both beautiful and challenging. The only thing we didn't like was the hardness of the sand in the bunkers and the greens needed to be cleaned but when I return to Myrtle Beach I will play there again.
Lamar
Everything good.
Tom
My only complaint is lack of adequate measurements. Would like front and back of green added to the sprinklers. Would have bought a yardage book had I known that.
Pat
It was a great course to play. Challenging, especially with the different par 3's. There are no complaints about any aspect of this course.
Stephen
Tight course. Enjoyed it. Harder than the average. Small greens.
Otto
Had fun.
Dwight
Enjoyed this layout tremendously.
Phil
Hated this course; tight fairways and houses in play on almost every hole. Condition of course was a joke; greens awful, bunkers have no sand and are like cement. Would never come back; absolute garbage food the money. Play Caledonia and see what an outstanding course feels like!
Joseph
Jack doesn't let up with the challenges here, but a nice course.
Andy
My favorite!
Lissus
Nice course, people were friendly and very helpful. Enjoyed the play but I think we enjoyed our replay at Willbrook even better. I don't think it's the best Nicklaus course but it is certainly a challenge.
Brad
Played course in package. Most overrated and under maintained course I've ever played in Myrtle Beach area. Do yourself a favor and skip this one. Too many other nice courses in the area to waste your time and money here. Try Willbrook or Ttadition instead.
Paula
We (a twosome) started on hole 10, and the group in front of us a foursome was so slow and didn't offer us to play through. Uncrowded.
Blaine
Great course, enjoyed playing it; the only thing was the greens, but this time of the year I don't expect much.
Dean
Love Nicklaus designs, especially this one in a great lowcountry setting
Kevin
Very nice layout, challenging but fair; excellent condition for March.
Rick
Loved it for this time of year.
Jim
The Pro/asst pro was very helpful in getting us out at another course in the area since they were booked solid. He also got us a reduced rate. A real gentleman. Course was in very good shape and greens are coming back from harsh summer and fall.
Mark
Played the Golden Bear tees. Shot a 108. Greens were really fast and true. Also clean today! Loved the challenge. There are 2 island green par 3's. Was disappointed that none of the traps had been raked in some time. Bathroom was filthy. Will play again for sure.
Timothy
Love the layout and area. The course could have been cleaner, especially the greens. They had dead leaves and didn't look to have been worked for a while. The staff was great and we had great weather. We'll return again and make it a yearly event on our trip to Myrtle.
Glenn
The course was nice, I think the greens could have been cleaned. Had a great time.
Mike
Attendants dropped my bag. skinning up several clubs, no apology.
Richard
the course was in gerat shape for this time of year
Tom
Limited items in the pro shop. Would have bought something here if prices were good and selection was more.
Brett
This is the best course I've played in Myrtle Beach. Unbelieveable layout, very scenic back 9, lightning-fast greens, and PLUSH conditions put the icing on the cake.
Jim
I have been coming to Pawleys for 20 yrs. and up till this last trip things have been wonderful. I really enjoy the course even though it is tough. What I was really upset with is the way Litchfield has taken over and how they are running the accommodations and the golf course. While breakfast is included in our package I only had breakfast once in the seven days I was there. We were told it would be served at 6 a.m. and when we got there it was 7 a.m.; too late to eat and play golf. I also was upset with them putting 3 groups in front of us while we were making the turn. We could have finished in 3.5 - 4 hrs. instead of 5 hrs., which left us no time for lunch and to catch a plane home. I also couldn't understand why I had to pay in advance this time instead of when I checked out. Overall experience this trip was not good.
George
I really want a partial refund for this course. We played on October 9th, and when we arrived on time we noticed it was very foggy -- but there was no fog delay. It was our first time playing this course and for the first 5 holes we could not see anything. Needless to say we had trouble finding any balls not directly in the fairway. Then they sent some maniacs out right on top of us hitting balls on us and the ranger was rushing us when we were just a few minutes off pace. One guy with a woman was jumping up and down like a damn fool we offered to let him play through but he huffed and puffed and said he would just skip the hole after yelling a bunch of nasty comments. We latter found out the jerk was a member who likes to play the round in 3 hours. So I'm wondering why didn't they just send that lunatic out in front of us. So five of the 18 holes were blind and (jerk)-infested and that tended to screw up our remaining 13. So Pawleys will not be on my list next time unless they give us a free play to make it up to us.
Michael
Difficult course, narrow fairways, course was in great shape except for the sand which was packed in the traps (like hitting off concrete). Very scenic, one of my favorite courses.
Rich
This course is very tough. You must bring your A+ game. If you play from the tips you better have a PGA card or better! The trees in the middle of the fairway is very cute; what was Jack thinking? The little par three is tricked up and unfair! Oh, I forgot bring plenty of balls. You should get a reward if you complete the round with one golf ball. Good luck.
Johnny
Love playing this Nicklaus course. Staff was wonderful, and conditions were very good.
Gerald
Pawleys ownership change showing, but still a wonderful layout ... greens had just been plugged.
Trevor
Besides the greens, the course was in good shape. We were aware of the greens being punched, but they had not improved as much as we had hoped - no real control over that, though ... Course was a great layout, but the outside staff could have been much better.
Billy
I love Nicklaus designs; play Long Bay often, and this one is right up there in terms of challenge and playability. I'll be back!
John
Loved the service ... setting is absolutely beautiful!
Roger
The greens had some fairly serious issues with fungus apparently.
Arlene
This course was in terrible shape. The greens were brown and had virtually no grass. It was raining when we started and they didn't even have towels to wipe down the wet cart seats. Very frustrating. STAY AWAY from this course.
Doug
The course needed water. The greens were very firm. Based on the surcharge the course should have been in better shape.
David
Bag drop area understaffed. Some confusion. Not much in pro shop. Good course.
John
enjoyed very much. like setting on creek/marsh
Jean
I don't get the last review, because we played on Dec. 17, and the course was in good shape, even played 90 degree rule except for 2 or 3 holes. Very nice course. Except for the par 3 13th hole, that hole is nonsense.
Bob
Course was great, but it took 5.5 hours to play. Members said this was very unusual to take so long to play a round.
Pat
Rained, but great course.
Brian
Always a favorite although there was something with the greens whether they just needed to be cut. I just couldn't get a feel for the speed. Celebrated playing here on my 40th birthday with my lovely wife! Couldn't ask for a better setting!
Larry
Course was in good condition. Very difficult course even from the white tees.
Douglas
Great track and in great shape. Greens rolled very true and firm. Par 3's were very scenic and good distance for hacks like me.
Dwight
Took a while to get used to the greens. I've pretty much always played on bent greens. Nice layout.
Don
*Nice course but lacked some maintanance
Dennis
beautiful golf course will play again
