Myrtlewood Golf Club – Palmetto Course
The Palmetto Course is one of two championship golf courses at Myrtlewood Golf Club. The Palmetto Course was designed by architect Edmund Ault and was opened for play in 1972. Just like its sister course PineHills, the Palmetto course is found at a great location sandwiched between the Intracoastal Waterway and downtown Myrtle Beach. The Palmetto Course has been continuously ranked as one of the top repeat-play golf courses along the Grand Strand featuring gently sloping fairways and large, undulating greens separated by an array of water hazards and strategically placed bunkers. The quality of this course combined with the location and value make it was one the most popular courses in the area.
There are three holes that will jump out at you on the Palmetto Course: #14, #17 and the beautiful finishing 18th hole. The 14th at Palmetto is a relatively short par 4 running about 391 yards from the back tees, but make sure you hit an accurate tee shot because water lurks to your right and out of bounds to your left, the 14th simply has a great view from the tee box looking at the back drop of houses behind the elevated green. The 17th hole is a short par 3 ranging only 179 yards from the back tees. It is all downhill and over water to a bunker guarded green, with a great view of the Intracoastal Waterway on your left. The finishing 18th hole that runs parallel to the Intracoastal Waterway is simply stunning. This hole offers a beautiful view but can be a monster depending on wind direction. From the back tees the 18th on Palmetto will run every bit of 470 yards and from the white tees it is 368 yards, almost a 100-yard difference from one tee box and it’s only a par 4! With the waterway and a few bunkers to the left and two fairways bunkers to the right, the fairway is actually pretty wide and forgiving. The popular 17th and 18th give Palmetto one of the best finishes to any round of golf in the Myrtle Beach area.

Myrtlewood Palmetto was the second course I played in Myrtle Beach. Really nice layout and the course was in overall good condition. The greens were more challenging and difficult compared to another course I played. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Basically the only thing we didn't like is there wasn't any course map on scorecard or hole layouts on signage at tee boxes. We had never played the course before so we were unfamiliar with hazards and some specific layouts.

Played the palmetto course the other day,totally disappointed in the amount of golfers on the course let alone the $80.on to play.From the time we teed off on number 1 it was hit and wait on every shot.When we reached number 17 tee box there were three groups waiting to tee off ,that was enough to make leave the course with no intention of returning.You can play a lot of other courses in MB for far less than $80.00 ,it time to move on.

This course was nice and challenging. I liked it the only problem was the pace of play. It was a 5 hour round the group in front of us was terribly slow and there were no rangers on the course speeding them up. We even asked the cart girl to have a ranger speed them up. She radioed in but that never happened. The cashier in the clubhouse passed a comment about it being a slow round later. So the staff new but did nothing about it which is a bit ridiculous.

Course was very soggy from watering the rye. So, besides it being cart path only, there were places where play was impossible, once te ball buried two inches in the ground was fiund. Very, very, very slow play. There should be a map of the course. Too many blind shots , especially for one who had not played the course before. Hole numbers were not even on the tees!!

Was at least a 15-20 min.wait at each hole. We were in Myrtle Beach on vacation, thought we would check the course out. I am a beginner golfer and a twosome came up behind us, my husband told them to go ahead of us. The Marshall comes along and wanted to know why we left them go ahead, there was no reason for that. I thought that was good golf ediquite, my mistake. If you are members there favoritism is shown! Will never go back, 4 hrs to play 9 holes, because of the wait at each hole.

I had a 2:45 tee time, although late should have allowed enough time to finish the course before dark. Play was slow and the ranger made no attempt to speed up play during the afternoon. He did come by late in the day to tell us that our cart had to be back in by 7:00. Driving by the 17th tee to return to the clubhouse by 7:00, there were 5 golf carts with players waiting to tee off, plus three sets of carts out playing the 18th hole. The slow play and lack of customer service will keep me from returning to this course - there are plenty of other courses in Myrtle Beach with faster play.

This course was extremely enjoyable to play. There was a variety of challenges but not too difficult for the high handicappers that were in our group. The course was in great condition even though it had been aerified in the past two weeks. A great experience. One of the best I have had at myrtle Beach.

Our round today took over FIVE hours. The four foursomes from Georgia that were ahead of us each had at least one hole open between them. We never saw the course Marshall until we called the proshop to complain. The Marshall was unwilling to address the groups to speed up play. Both the proshop and Marshall each blamed the corporate office for overbooking tee times.

The pro shop called to inform us that the Palmetto course was going to be aeriated on Monday before we were to play on Tuesday and offered to switch our play to Pine Hills. We accepted and were very pleased that they took the time to call in advance.

My husband and son played golf there. They were very happy with their play there. The only complaint was ... we stayed at the Breakers Resort, and dialed 1000 from room to book. That process was great. Our complaint is that he was not told at booking that they needed to wear collared shirts. He had some at hotel, but had just chosen to wear a regular t-shirt. They were then faced with option of not playing, or having to buy a shirt for both of them. It was a $70.00 expense we were not planning on. Other than this, they enjoyed their time there. But we just feel this should have been mentioned at booking. Thank you.

I play Myrtlewood each time I come to Myrtle Beach. Both courses are always in good condition and the atmosphere on the course and in the club house is great. The food is always good inside and everyone is very hospitable.

What a great course for only $25 pp. Excellent condition, interesting layout. The gusty winds made it seem like Scotland if it were 40 degrees cooler and rainy. I highly recommend course, especially for the money!

Nice track ... rough on fairways and around greens is tough to get used too. Rough grabs your wedge and no roll if it does not hit green first. Use a nine, eight or fairway wood around greens to get through the rough stuff!! Really enjoyed the course after I figured that out.

Only thing I was concerned about is they only gave rain checks in case of rain. We played our round Tues. morning but there was terrible storm in the afternoon. I am not sure if we could have used rain checks. Would prefer refund as I am only in Myrtle Beach once per year.

The greens seem to have recently been aerated and were a little hard and slow, not very consistent. If the greens were in better shape (even as good as the practice greens) this would be one of the nicest courses I've ever played. The grill is top notch!

We were the first group out. We teed off at 7:32. We made the turn at 9:38. One of the monitors admonished us and told us we had to speed up play. At no time was the group behind us waiting on us. 2 hours and 6 minutes is exceptional for 4 golfers (we were paired with two other golfers). We finished the round in exactly 4 hours. Also, we were on hole 15 before we saw the beverage cart.

The course was in great condition even though it was extremely wet. The Palmetto course does not turn at the clubhouse, although there is a snack bar that you pass on the front and the back nine.

The Palmetto course is located on the Intracoastal Waterway and has some great scenic holes. Overall the course is in good condition. However, two things make it a less than stellar round of golf. First, the drainage can create terrible problem areas. Lots of places on the fairways and areas located in front of greens are so wet that you would think you're in a hazard. To be fair, it has rained a good amount in Myrtle Beach over the previous week, so that may have contributed to the conditions. Second, and more annoying is that fact that the 9th hole is nowhere near the clubhouse. So you have no chance to stop and get a refreshment or snack when making the turn. Overall not a bad course, would recommend to other players for playability and price.

Very nice course. My foursome had a variety of handicaps (6 to 20-something) and it was challenging yet fair for everyone. Fairways were furrowed in some strange way and lots of tight greenside lies - some by design, others seemingly due to early season conditions; not sure which. In any case, a good experience and one I'd do again.
