Litchfield Country Club
In 1966, Litchfield Country Club opened on the site of an old rice plantation and is one of the original eight courses along the Grand Strand. Litchfield was awarded 4.5 stars in Golf Digest’s “2008 – Places to Play” and also one of the “Worlds 50 Best – 1996” by Conde Nast Traveler. Litchfield offers challenges to golfers of all levels.
The 13th hole is a long par five with a lake along the entire left side and with O.B. along the right; this hole consistently ranks as one of the more difficult at Litchfield. The 18th hole is the signature hole at Litchfield. A precise tee shot must be hit to setup the demanding approach over water. Live oaks and Carolina pines are sprinkled throughout this historic property.

I've played Litchfield twice since arriving 2/1 and to be honest it's a great value... Course conditions are good, greens good and the staff friendly. Is it my favorite track in Myrtle Beach? No.. but it's budget friendly and plays well so it's a great gap course between playing the more expensive places on my list. I have also been paired with some super-friendly folks on both visits making the rounds even more fun. Kudos to the LCC staff for making it possible to have my wife ride along... It’s likely a low season thing but it helps keep the peace around the condo!

This is more a review of the staff instead of the course. The course is challenging and well kept but it was the experience that will get me back here. We made reservations for 5 during the week. Called ahead and they said we could try to make it work. When we arrived they sent us off on the back nine with another group 5 holes behind us. Really appreciate the thoughtfulness and desire to make this a great day. Here is what was not known by Mike, The awesome starter, is that this was my daughters first golf round and was shared with her boyfriend and Grandfather, my dad who may not be around much longer. To let us play through like that was above and beyond what most courses will allow. Many Thanks for the memories to be made

The course was in good shape. We will play here again. I was a little disappointed that the grill was not serving hot dogs at the turn. The lady in the grill was not the friendliest and said they only had cold sandwiches; she said she didn't have any more hotdogs cooking? It was only 2:00. They also require that you pay extra if you want to hit range balls before your match. Otherwise, it was a great course.

Tee off on Sunday around 12:30 p.m. Had a great time, will play again and recommend playing this course if you come to MYRTLE BEACH, We arrive early for our 1:30 p.m. tee time ate lunch and asked pro when could we start, he got us off in 10 minutes, a hour early for our scheduled tee time that was great! We are from Omaha, Nebraska. You will enjoy this course.

Not a difficult course to play. Fine for me since I'm around 100 and still trying to play better. Got there an hour before my start, paid extra for a bucket of range balls only to get yanked by the starter who wanted me to go off a half hour sooner! Warming up and hitting some range balls is important to me. Don't want to get rushed. Why pick a tee time? What am I paying for?

Greens were very hard to get the correct speed, fairways were narrow compared to other courses. This is a much older course, my Dad played it decades ago.

We had a really great day at Litchfield. I was with a close friend I haven't seen in years and we had a blast on this course. The staff was great and the course was in beautiful condition despite some rain earlier in the day and the night before. The pace was great for an afternoon and the course requires pretty much every club in the bag and a variety of shots. Tough driving course and a premium on hitting the ball straight. Greens are perfect I would reccomend this course to anyone.

We played here on 2/3/13. We got there an hour early and they were nice to us and got us out early, always a good feeling. The course is in better shape than I've seen it in the past few years. Tee to green was well groomed. We enjoyed the day and the course. It's not as pretty as some of the courses because there are a lot of houses just off the fairways but it's a tough test of golf and a fair one. We will return again.

I would really recommend this course to all golfers visiting. In closing I never received my my fifth course for free booking email or any confirmation for Blackmoor or complimentary course available for Saturday morning or afternoon, this was the only negative thing against MBN network - other than that, great system, bring the print, no problem at any of the pro shops. Beautiful course - we were harassed, however, from the very beginning by a belligerent starter and course ranger who kept telling us to pick up the pace - we finished our round of golf in under 4:15 and played a steady pace the whole way through. On the whole, it appeared that our presence was not wanted even though we paid our fee and had a round of golf reserved. I've NEVER been treated as badly as these employees treated us.

This was my first time playing this course. The course was in excellent condition. I booked as a single and the threesome I was paired with did not seem to take the game seriously. I don't know how often they have played, but they didn't act like other golfers I have played with. I am a high handicap player, typical round in the mid 90's, but I try to keep the round moving and have respect for others on the course. One of the other players was talking on his cell phone and putting one handed back and forth on the green. We were way behind pace for a typical round and I stopped after nine holes. I don't have any issues with the course or staff and will play Litchfield next time I am in the area on vacation.

Different from the previous ones but just as much enjoyable. The rough was more thick; you have to work harder to keep the ball in the fairway. Old golf course-type that was very charming & challenging. I played 2 other rounds there.

Back nine green were in terrible condition. Group in front of us stopped at the turn for 30 minutes, and we caught them at the turn. Club house was archaic, and there was no players assistant which made monitoring pace-of-play non-existent.

The course is in excellent condition. Some maintenance emphasis should be placed on the tees. Several are in need of leveling. Our round took five hours. More attention should be placed on monitoring and promoting speed of play.

Getting a tee time on Long Island is tough, so a chance to play a nice course down here was an absolute pleasure. The course was in really good shape, and dealing with the staff gave me a good appreciation for Southern Hospitality. Thanks for a great experience!

Played here Friday the 26th (morning, thankfully, as it was a hot day). All 52 of us enjoyed this course, but for some reason, even our scratch golfers found this to be the toughest course of the trip. Good tee boxes, fairways, lots of water, greens a little sandy but still fast. We gave this course a solid 8.

Forgettable. I don't think that I'll play Litchfield Country Club again. There are too many other Myrtle Beach courses that I think I'll enjoy better. The course was in playable condition and the staff was unispired, which realely made the experience one that I won't do again.

Commented on December 10, 2008: I agree with the playing the south beach area of Myrtle Beach. They started this thing called the Waccamaw Trail???? I think that is how it is spelled. It is all of the courses in that area and they are all within a few minute drive from each other. Highly ranked courses and some with deals. I love the assortment of restaurants. We tried two new ones these year. Rocco's, Northern Italian - great...a little pricey but worth it for the step out dinner. There is a brewhouse called Quigley's?????? Great casual food and reasonably priced. Rented a condo with three other guys. I think that we are going to bring the spouses and significant others this spring. Our fifth year to the area.

Commented on December 8, 2008: Litchfield Country Club was on our list of courses to play last year, out of the several we played on the south end, it was tougher for many in the group due to narrower fairways and several holes with O.B. A lot of $$$ changed hands that day!!! Have come to love the south end of the Grand strand; great golf and can't go wrong with the restaurants down there either.

Played Aug. 20, 2008: Service and flexibility was exemplary. Unfortunate three tees were being fixed and had to use alternate tees but I am looking forward to the changes next time I play the course.

Played Sept. 19, 2008: Was very disappointed! I expected it to be on par with the rest (of the courses on my trip - Willbrook Plantation, River Club and King's North at Myrtle Beach National), shouldn't be in the same category. Definitely overpriced.

Commented on December 8, 2008: I agree it is an area classic being one of the older courses in the area. The par 3's will make or break you day. It is also refreshing being able to run approach shots onto the greens and not having every hole with a forced carry to the pin. Makes for a different Myrtle Beach golf experience. Been playing here and other area courses for years.
