Indian Wells Golf Club – Closed
Designed by Gene Hamm, Indian Wells received the 2004 Myrtle Beach Golf Course of the Year award by the Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Association. It was also awarded the Customer Service and Hospitality Award by the Myrtle Beach Golfing News.
The finishing hole is a consistent member of the “Grand Strand’s Dream 18” and is regarded as one of the best and toughest tests along the beach. Indian Wells is a true test that holds up over time.

Our group had a great time at Indian Wells. The course layout is impressive, and the conditions were excellent. The clubhouse and staff were professional and friendly. After our round, we concluded Indian Wells is a great value. We are from out of town, but heard that the owners are considering closing the course, and we would say there are plenty of others on the strand that should be repurposed rather than the fine golf available at Indian Wells.

It's been a long time since I have played Indian Wells, but like the layout. There were a few greens that has some damage. The greens were also rather inconsistent in their speed. But overall enjoyed the round.

We have played many times this winter. In past they seemed to never ride the fairways, not the case this year. Staff very friendly, especially in the pro shop.

People at the course were very nice and the course is fun to play. Not that challenging but fun. The only downside was getting stuck behind the 4 guys that watch too much tv. They were a hole and a half behind the group in front after just 2 holes. By the 6th hole after we couldn't take it anymore and skipped a few hole to get ahead of them. The ranger later caught up to us and apologized but the damage had been done. Like I said, the guys running the course were great but they need to say something to groups that are making for a bad day. I will go back but only if I can get an early tee time.

Being a "local" here in this area since 2003, I've had the opportunity to play many courses up and down the Grand Strand. Indian Wells has, and continues to be, one of the most challenging courses in the area. Starting off right away with Hole #1 (Par 5), you set the tone for the round with your accuracy. Each hole thereafter, requires your attention to placing the shots in the best spot. As you go through the back 9, Hole #15 appears before you (Par 5) and you again have to be ready to put the ball in the right spot. The final two holes require additional placement accuracy and the last hole (even though they have removed my favorite tree by the water) is extremely challenging. Anyone visiting the Grand Strand area I would highly recommend you make it a point to try out Indian Wells. You won't be disappointed!

Went to Indian Wells yesterday. Was never disrespected the way the staff did there. They overbook the course, then they hurry you off. The grounds crew wouldn't even move out of the traps on the par 3 number 8 so we could safely tee off. Luckily the company I booked through is refunding our fees. I will never play this course again. I chose it based off the recommendation of a local associate. Bad news travels fast, and I'll be spreading it for you every chance I get. Of course, the manager there told a different story to the agency. Way to go pissing off two SC businessmen that used your course for a meeting day.

I enjoy the layout, especially the back nine, almost holed my 7 wood on the 186 yard 17th hole.

Very unique course, well laid out and somewhat difficult but a fair test of golf. Greens were subtle in their breaks but readable. Fairways are wide enough yet lined with trees and water to make your shot placements critical. Course was wet from a soaking rain the day before but very playable nonetheless. Ratings on course conditions...I understand it is summer and you have to protect the course from heat, so I was not disappointed. With so much water I wish I had brought my gps...several shots I thought were great turned out not to be so. I did not like that I could not drop my clubs at my car on the cart after the round. I thought the course was a fair test, my son who is 12 and new to the game played with me and he could navigate around the hazards...most of the tees were ok for him with one exception where we had to move him to the other side to tee off. The range interferes with the 18th hole...we lost a ball because so many range balls were on the hole it would have taken forever to find ours. Overall a good experience.

There was no reason we should have been let out on that course. It poured the night before and the course was a MESS! Cart path only which was fine, but you left 6 inch footprints through the fairways. The tee boxes were so wet you could even get your footing to take a real swing. Tried hitting the ball into the rough and near cart paths (cause it was easier for me). Sad to see a course that could have been nice ruined because they probably didn't want to lose money!

I'm very sorry to say that Indian Wells has gotten run down and shabby, I used to always enjoy playing this course but it has fallen into disrepair. The tees are all chewed up and the fairways are thin. The greens are painter to hid some bad spots. The staff was excellent to deal with but the course is a very low end spot now. We played it on 1/26/14 and it's that time of year when the courses are hard to work but this has been neglected for some time. I will not return and by the look of the parking lot on a nice sunday afternoon, many people feel the same as me. I try to give an honest review, I hope it helps.

We had 2 threesomes and had no one in front when we teed off but he wanted us to catch a group that teed off earlier than us. We played in just over 4 hours and did not hold up our group behind us. We will never play that course again.

I added 1 person and they charged me 48 dollars and the other 3 were 38. The 2 guys in the pro shop were not very courteous. No bag attendant ready for departure. Cart girl was nice but only saw her 3 times in one round. And it was 100+ degrees. Offer cold towels and more water on the course.

Made tee times online 2 weeks prior. There was no email notice regarding course maintenance. When we arrived only 9 holes were open and those 9 holes that we had to play had a quarter inch sand/top dressing. We were told there was no discount or refund because we had booked online. It felt like we were penalized for giving the course the courtesy of planning ahead. Played as a 3-some for 9 holes and a 2-some on back 9, round was 4.5 hours ... worst golf experience ever.

Overall, I'd rate the course a 5. After reading the reviews, our group was mildly disappointed with the course. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The starter gave some some great tips on play around the greens. The course was not in great condition. Tee boxes were beat up pretty good and the greens were very hard and didn't hold the ball well (the starter even warned us about this). It's a very nice layout with lots of water just wished the conditions were better. Pace of play was terrible. Even after chatting with the marshall (the group ahead of us had a gap of a hole between them and the group in front of them) he didn't press them on.

The course is a bit difficult for players with a higher handicap.

My buddy and I played it in March 2010, while killing time for our flight. Didn't expect much upon arrival, but was very shocked at the bang for the buck. Course was in great condition. Only negative comment would be the pro shop and restaurant area are very outdated. Other than that it was awesome. We have this course listed to play this November as our first course upon arrival.

Course was a great design; the greens just were very, very slow. I enjoyed the course, club house, and all the employees were great. Would definitely play again with hopes the greens are in a little better shape, speed wise.

Indian Wells is definitely a must play, however, bring your A game. This is one of the more difficult courses I have played at MB. A lot has to do with lack of course knowledge, but they do give you a pretty good GPS system in the cart which has a good course layout on it. The staff was very friendly as well. I will try this one again next year.

Nice conditions. The course has a couple of very interesting holes, lots of water, not always in play. The ranger was helpful in getting a slow group to let us play through.
